Warren Demartini/George Lynch Tone?

Maybe he was referring to Fortin's penchant for taking a design, making a tiny change, putting tribal tattoos and shit on it, calling it his own, charging a super premium, and his fanbois tripping all over their dicks to proclaim it as the second coming?

I'm putting words in his mouth here, but I assume it was a long those lines somewhere ?
Yeah I know. I just meant that I’d think if Fortin attempted to make something like that that it wouldn’t sound good and would probably be more than a tiny change if they were to try to make a pedal that sounds like that rack unit

Boss PQ-4

The VFE Rocket was absolutely killer but of course VFE so now hard to come by.

So funny when it comes to nuno, just say the amp played was "Nuno". Because his attack and style just lend themselves to those tones. 1st album has a rattier tone so I would guess Marshall/or Pro tubes AOR with his RAT pedal. Pornografitti no questions is that ADA and it has been documented. Three sides and Waiting for the Punchline sound fatter. Pauly I think is likely right and he tends to know the hairspray years gear pretty well. But again, the amp played was "Nuno". He's just a beast. The Bill Lawrence pups do help to though. Give the bite and squealies. I have one from Bill and Becky. Great pickup but will expose your mistakes if you aren't sharp.
The AOR doesn’t need the Rat pedal, just the PQ3. You really dont even need the Bill Lawrence, most of the tone is the AOR/PQ3 combo. I get it just fine with a Duncan Parallel Axis (original), very PAFish pickup. Don’t forget the big digital reverb either. Aquanet optional.

Lots of replies since I’ve been gone.

So yeah, first Extreme album was a 800.

One day I will own a Soldano. Most likely a SLO 30. It’s the only boutique amp I’m really interested in.

So I’m thinking probably just a good reverb and delay pedal, and the right settings on the amp and I should be good?

Again, if you’ve got any good guitar recording tips, hit me up.

First Extreme was not an 800, it’s mostly Laney AOR.

To the topic line...when I think hotrodded 80’s Plexi Marshall tone, Invasion of Your Privacy is one of the first albums I think of. That’s pinnacle 80’s Marshall tone for me.

If you’ve got an overall ‘sound / tone’ with the amp that you really, really like, but just want a lil extra grease for leads without changing the tone, I am a huge fan of the Spark Mini. It provides literally ZERO tone coloration and I set mine no higher than 9:00 - which is barely cracked open and the leads just sing. (think of 7:00 as ‘off’ and 5:00 as ‘full blast’ that makes 9:00 roughly 2 on a scale of 1-10)

Completely Agreed.

That I’m not sure of. The difference is what ? The 6 knob is single channel the 8 is dual ? I have an 8 knob and with the PQ3 and some decent reverb in the loop it’s right there, I mean exact.

I cant' remember where... maybe this forum... I thought the Ratt album Demartini tone was said to be a Fender/Champ or Deluxe reverb used as a preamp reamped by a Marshall or Laney head ala the EVH method.

Live I remember him saying he used to borrow a plexi amp from George Lynch and I saw them live once in like 1984 or 86 I thought he had Laney amps on the stage, his tone was pretty bright and shrill live.

First Extreme album was an 800. Not a Laney. That’s a common psyop. Ratt didn’t use Laney’s either. NEVER. Also a common psyop.

I never said Ratt used Laneys, but the first Extreme record IS Laney. Nuno used Laney heads in the clubs before they got signed. He says there is Laney on the record in an interview in Guitar For The Practicing Musician right after the record came out. He used Laneys on stage at the record release party at the Channel club in Boston. His cabs were Ampeg V4 cabs loaded with Peavey Scorpion (!) speakers. Go talk to his former tech Mike Keegan (who did tech work for EVH after Gary joined VH), or Bob St John, the engineer (later producer) that worked on it.

Out of the Cellar is the Fender Champ into Marshall for the leads anyway. But overall I think it was just really great sounding Marshalls that they bought a few of and settled on one. (assuming they might have boosted or more likely, PQ3'd it as that is "the tone" for that era that kills more than any on board mods)

The Laney 6 knob has 1/2 tube added for more gain and a bass and mid boost on push/pull knobs . The 8 knobber has more gain on tap and a few more tone shaping options. 8 knobbers are more common. My 6 knobber sounded pretty good loud but ultimately I gutted it and put in a PTP 2204 with some tweaks. This amp sounds much better at volume than the stock Laney did.
