Bill good topic, many men say that the early WDM was heavily influenced by the Lynchman. They were roommates at one time correct me if I am wrong.
Warren always tasty plays for the song and strings the licks throughout in an even manner. Never flash for it's own sake.
Whereas Yodamaster George has been Mr. Scary in real life and isn't afraid to go out of the box.
WDM may have stayed in the cellar too long, but always had time to buy and listen to Ratt albums.
This was a great early pro shot show with a King solo on the first song:

This clip with WDM on a Gretsch an with Dweezil is very tasty: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InDLtCaZ ... plpp_video
These Young Guitar clips are at backstage levels, but are a good primer for his style, always melodic and tasteful:

This live clip is classic the extended first solo is almost Gary Moorish in improv and of course the textbook solo the 2nd time, great delayed tone

As for George, a former resident of my dry heat state this MTV clip gave me renewed hope:

That he can go out there is mostly a strength not a weakness.
Like in that Hear N' Aid video where both Yngwie and George kill it. George has times of being more economical in his playing but always the heart is there.
I give the nod to WDM but they are neck and neck many times!!

Rupe PM's you awhile back..you get??
Atomic Playboy

Both were great, the solo in The Hunter is one of top 10 all-time but Warren had the goods to me. His playing swagger and phrasing was seductive, the ride out solo in Round And Round is the ultimate Warren. Every time a DJ talks over it it kills me. Warren channelled something beyond 80's guitar playing IMO. To bad his band was filled with a bunch of assholes.

Bro, I read the same article and was so incensed by it that I got out my pen and paper and wrote a scathing letter to GFTPM in care of Stix. I told the guy that I didnt even play guitar but as a huge fan of both players, his statement was completely without merit and suggested getting his hearing checked post haste. I gave him the example of people calling Robin Trower a Jimi rip off and told him that if he couldnt hear that Warren clearly had his own voice despite wearing his EVH influences on his sleeve, The problem was not Warrens and that the guitar community would benefit greatly if he moved to an area of journalism outside of music..

Much to my chagrin, my letter never got posted and I never recieved a response. I have to admit that considering the type of person that I was back then, I exercised remarkable restraint by not going down to the office and throwing him a beating for being so galactically stupid...

So I wasn't the only one then? Seriously, I was so pissed I still remember it 28 years later :gethim: :D

I was blown away the guy couldn't hear the very discernible difference between the two. Maybe my mom couldn't have heard the difference, but a writer for a guitar magazine? I thought it was mind boggling.

The only other time I got as pissed in a guitar mag interview was one with Kim Thayil. In the same magazine, he quoted lead guitar soloing as being something primitive that a caveman in a loin cloth would do. Then later he again complained about lead guitar playing as being frilly and effeminate. Well, which one is it douchebag? And him making fun of lead guitar soloing would be like me making fun of slam dunking or piloting a fighter jet. Yeah, normally I don't diss things I can't do very well or not at all.

Yeah, I said that.

Kim Thayil! What an asshat. I guess it's cool to ripoff Black Sabbath all day long? Funny thing is that douche tries to solo, and he fails at it terribly. Take a listen to that mess of a train wreck in black hole sun.

both are great, but Lynch for me, BFTA and WS are just awesome~

Also love Lynch Signature guitar more!!

Love them both, but Warren just wins by a nose hair - Lynch hasnt' done anything great since Wicked Sensation IMO, and hasn't had good tone since either.
