Congrats! LOVE my Quickrod and 4X12 slant. They aren't getting a lot of love right now, because I'm still in the honeymoon with my Friedman Smallbox and 2x12. But every once in a while I get in the mood to play some AIC, Tool, etc and decide to plug into the QR. I never power it off thinking anything other than "I LOVE THIS RIG". It's not better or worse than the Friedman... just different.

Awesome. I am kind of afraid to try the Friedman stuff. Probably good its not readily available around me. I am better off staying in the mind set that Splawn is it for me. And hell...it could be worse.

You're playing one of the best rock amps made. So you're all set. Last spring I was sitting in a work meeting, browsing my smart phone and saw an ad for a 2012 QR and matching 4x12 in the used section of a music store's website for a stupid low price. The store was 120 miles away. I excused myself from the meeting, ran out in the hall, called the store, gave them my credit card numbers, and drove up to pick it up the next day. Best deal I've ever got. Here's a pic of the ad.

P.S. I'm paying $2100 more for just my Smallbox head, than I did for the whole Splawn rig. The Friedman is awesome... but it ain't THAT awesome.

Holy CRAP that was a killer deal! Had to be a mistake - who would sell a head AND 4x12 cab for $800?

That's the first thing I thought, when I stumbled on the ad. I'm like "NO WAY!!! It HAS to be $1800 for both!" So when I called the store up I sort of gingerly made a comment asking if that price was right, and they said it was. I said "SOLD!!!".

Nice man. I also have an '09 and absolutely love it. My wife didn't care that I got mine. In fact, when my wife was with me at GC and I jammed on a used one there, she INSISTED that I buy it she liked it so much haha. I actually told a friend of mine about it and he ended up buying it, and I got mine a few months later (traded a Mesa Mark III for it).

BTW mine is decked out in the white plexi shell. I really want to swap out for a black tolex/gold piping plexi shell, so if anyone wants to trade hit me up.

Yup. Good call racing to get that for $800.

Without question... the best $800 I've ever spent in nearly 32 years of playing and buying gear. Wish I could have stumbled into something like this back in the 80s when I was a gigging poor musician.

So i found on online for $1250 that a decent price, 100 watt 2010 model

Seems to be in the normal ballpark. Good deal....I don't know that it would quantify as a goo deal as in you got it less than the going rate. If it's clean and the one you want then go for it!

The new QR came yesterday. I was able to spend a good amount of time with it today.
It's a killer amp. A good bit different than the '09 for sure. I need to A/B between the two at some point.
I feel like the gears are more usable on the new one. I always used to stick to Gear 2 and almost always used OD2. On the new one I don't feel I need OD2 to get a nice aggressive gain level going. And even Gear 1 can sound massive. There is enough thump and thickness there for what I like for my main rhythm tone.
The mid cut takes out mids as the name implies, but diming the mid EQ brings enough mid cut back and at a lower mid focus. I will have to see if it will still cut in the band mix but I think that may be the ticket to a more modern tone. It kicks you in the nuts while the normal mid voicing kicks you in the chest.
I am also not finding the same Treble blend pot thing that the '09 has that makes me run treble at basically 0. On this one it's usable all the way through and doesn't thin out the tone.

Can you elaborate on this treble blend pot phenomenon please ?

Not positive on the years this applies to but on my '09 Scott referred to the treble as a blend pot. All the way off to about the 9:00 position it sounds like there is treble in the mix but also there is some extra sizzle and bite and a bit of a mid bump that mellows out as the treble pot is turned. To me the tone thins out and has less bite and is pretty muffled from 10:00 to about 1:00. When the treble starts to brighten things back up it just never has the same thickness to me and is smoother than with it off.
That is why you will see a lot of people comment that they run treble on 0

Congrats. I have a Pro Mod waiting for me when I get home from the road trip I'm on now. Can't wait to play it.

Congrats man. I've been playing a QuickRod for years now. I love it as much as ever. Been considering a new one as well but I love the one I have. Great amps and easily loud enough to keep up with 5 bands. Fire breathers for sure.

I had a Splawn Competition years ago and was such a great amp. Loud but sounded great even at lower volumes. I had people say that I was getting as good of an EVH sound as people with EVH setups. :)

Forgot to mention the clean is a bit different too. I think it has more crunch with gain up high. Seems more lively too.
I use clean on like 3 songs for some parts in my one band so I'll see if I get along with it better in those brief moments.
I know there was the change on the clean channel when it went to 4preamp tubes, but seems like there are changes since the '09 version as well. I may have missed people calling that out.

Congrats man on the new amp. I had a QR before and loved it. Tell the wife you traded for it on CL for a bunch of pedals she don't know about.
