Also: the hospital is FILLED TO THE BRIM DAILY with people who have SELF INFLICTED INJURIES/MEDICAL ISSUES ( driving drunk, doing something stupid, doing a stunt, operating heavy machinery intoxicated, drug overdoses, firework injuries, SMOKING, etc), should they be turned away too? That’s literally why my job exists, and the hospitals are mostly filled with these type of issues: very rarely ( it happens) do people go to the hospital for something that they themselves had no part in inflicting on themselves in some way shape or form. Sure, certain cancers, getting hit by a drunk driver etc are all people who had no control over them going to the hospital, but a MASSIVE amount of people are in hospitals because of something they themselves DID or had a part in… so I ask you again, should those people not go to the hospital too? You are 100 percent completely out of touch here, you aren’t going to win this one.

It amazes me that you have a medical background, yet still can't separate your personal idealogical opinion (that isn't related to science) from the discussion. I'm not saying the idealogical freedoms shouldn't be a factor in the conversation, that is clearly a big issue for many people. I'm saying they are not based on science and your medical background is completely unrelated to the points you are pushing.

Also, one of things about getting a specialized degree is realizing when your specialization makes you less of an expert in related fields. It is very common for a doctor, engineer, or lawyer to say, "this is out of my area of expertise" and refer people to someone who knows the landscape better. So unless you are a virologist or running a covid ward, I'm not sure your medical opinion is as relevant as you believe it is.

don’t get your panties in a bunch. I afforded tons of great gear when I was more or less “broke” in the scheme of things during periods of my life also, for what it’s worth.

4-5 years after the initial case in 1981 to know a decent amount about a disease is not “ quick”, sorry. And yes, it was hampered by Congress, even more so to my point of why the progress was slow on AIDS.
