Welp, my brand new Mark IV is fucked up.

I would ship it to Mesa and have them look at it, I'm sure they would agree with you since you swapped in multiple sets of tubes....and the amp's brand new.

Damn.. that doesnt sound good Dave! Is there anyone locally who works on Mesa Boogie's near ya? I had a Mesa Boogie recommended tech who serviced my MKIII when it blew up, and it turned out a simple part had blown and needed replacing!

Oh man, that sucks. I hope this concludes as pain free as possible.

Hey Random hero.... I usually use the classic V eq settings (or close to it).

Interesting that it was so bright. I think the Marks are bright anyway, especially compared to what I was used to, Rectifiers. Sorry to hear about the amp dude, hope it gets fixed up soon.

My brand new Mark IV screwed up the first day I had it. Its problem was that I lost all of my volume on channel 1 and had very little gain on my other channels due to a faulty LDR.

Does it sound like crackling paper almost? Cuz my Mark III does that and I replaced a tube, fixing it for a short while, but it has recently come back when I turn the volume up to a little past 2.

That sucks!!
Fortunately my new Mark IV worked fine out of the box.
I hope you get things worked out quickly.

No it sounds like static. It comes and goes intermitantly.

I have to mention though that this Mark IV sounds NOTHING like my MArk IVa

The B version i have now sounds different from the A version i had. I actually like the B version better. How bright is the amp if you pull the presence out? On my cabs the amp just sounds nasty with the presence pushed in.

Did you check/change the power tubes. This is the sound my mark IV made when it had a bad pair or 6L6's. You can try swapping the inner set of tubes and outer set and run it in 1/2 power (class A) and see if you get the same result.

I hope its something simple.....

Can you describe the difference? I have the A version and amp just curious. I have never done a head to head with the B version....

Mess around with the EQ more, I thought mine was bright too, but its easy to hide it. At first I didnt want to do anything but the "V" shape, but there's just too much not to leave alone in that amp.

I messed around with the EQ. Dont forget that I have a MArk IV already and I know how it works ;) ;) ;)

Hey Dave, your Mark IV sounds a lot like a Mark IV i played at GC in East Brunswick. It was just a treblely windtunnel, i mean it sounded fucking aweful. I told the salesman that the amp was definity screwed up as my Mark IV sounded a lot better. But then the asshole asked why i was playing it if i already owned a Mark IV.

I notice a little bit more preamp gain and a little more of a bright tone from the A, not much, but i did notice it when i first plugged in. It's really not the sort of difference that would make me sell an A version just to get a B, but it's still a small difference.

Go back and read the first post.... ;)

Been a busy day, sorry. Guess you caught me speed reading instead of slowing down a bit.

Let us know how it works out and for some reason I see many used amps in your future :D

  For some reason I thought you only owned III's. With all those bad ass cabs you need to organize a HOM again in a couple months, I regret not going to the last one
