Went back to my Marshall 6100 recently.

After a couple months gigging with my GSP1101/poweramp setup, which is amazing, I used my Marshall 30th Anni head at a practice with my pub band tonight and couldn't believe how great it sounded on every channel!

Tried the direct out into the PA for the first time as well and it was as good as mic-ing it up to my ears.

Top amp!

Friend has a 6100 that spent a few weeks at my house. Great amp. A bit noisy. But talk about versatile. Best clean tones I've ever heard in a Marshall. OD and lead channel had that classic Marshall roar.

It's a great amp for sure! Had one briefly but ended up flipping it for another amp, and in hindsight I never should have let that one go (either...).

I never tried the DI to FOH though, but you liked it? Have you tried the GSP with 4 cable method with it? You would have a nice setup there paired with the a midi footswitch or the Control 2 to change the channels in the 6100 and nice fx plus the possibility to use the GSP's preamps as well ;).

is that the purple/blue head with lots of knobs ?

i remember seeing them in guitar shops when i was a teenager

Yeah, I've got the classic black/gold version, but wish I had the brass one!

I've been thinking about using the GSP w/4CM, but I don't even know where I would start!

The direct out sounds a lot better than when the other guitarist in one of my bands used his direct out on his TSL60. I was totally surprised by it I must admit.

Do you mean you don't know how to hook it up? The manual is your friend here :). I've not tried it yet with any amps myself but read the manual many times, and it looks very simple indeed.

The beauty of the 6100's are the huge transformers they have, compared to the new stuff. Serious iron = serious punch!

I have a 6101LE, nice amp. I really liked channels 1, 2a, and 2b. I found 2c and 3 to be very buzzy and easy to get feedback on. I wished you could footswitch between the modes on channel2, that would be a great mod. There are so many variations of the 30th anniversary 6100 series amps its not even funny.

I moved on to a 2553 silver jubilee that just suits me better.
