Wet Dry Wet rig on a 4x12 cab

Hi all, in the next few months I'll be making my own W/D/W rig but I'm going to do it a bit different that everyone and that is that I'm going to have it all in a 4x12 cab. What I'm planing on doing is to use the top 2x12 for the dry sound and the bottom 2x12 have them on a wet stereo 1x12. I think it will be a great way to have everything together and easy to carry arround

I've heard of guys doing this, and while it's pretty cool, and compact, the general consensus is that when you do it all in one cab, you don't get the separation that you need to really get the effect of W/D/W. That being said. . .it's probably still a cool option to run W/D/W, and MUCH easier to carry!

I understand the part that having all close together wont have that much stereo separation on its own, but in a live setup with a mic on the dry sound and 2 on the wets you will have that great separation on the PA system.

Can you simplify the W/D/W thing.

I have the following:

Two Mesa Trem-O-Verb Combos.
TC GMajor.
One split Marshall 4X12, left side is left, right side is right.
Radial ToneBone JX-2 A/B/Y Switch.

So I run in stereo and I place the 4X12 between the two combo amps, which are separated by about 20 feet.

How would I rig up the W/D/W and why would I want to?

Thanks man.

Mesa Boogie's old metal grille 4x12 would work good for this. The top 2x12 and bottom 2x12 are separated/divided from each other. I think it would be more work than it's worth if you don't use a spilt cab. I agree with what Reverymike said you won't really get the separation your wanting unless your using some type of spilt cab.

It won't sound like 3 separate cabs that is for sure. I tried it with two 4x12s for awhile - one 4x12 dry and the other one stereo with effects and it was WAY, WAY better when I added a 3rd cab. Not enough separation when combining things in a single (or even two) cabs IMO.

I wouldn't bother going to all the trouble of W/D/W unless I was going to have three cabs. If you want to minimize things to carry, get two 1x12 ported, closed back cabs like Bogner cubes for the wet cabs...

even when using mics it wont sound that good?

There would be a lot of mic bleed. That is, your "dry" sounds will bleed into your "wet" mics, and vice versa.

You need the physical/spacial separation of 3 separate cabs to minimize the bleed.

You can't do wet/dry/wet with two amps. But you can do wet/dry.
Use the slave out on amp #1 and send signal to the G-Major, G-Major out to the loop return of the second amp. Done.

Yes. You generally use a stereo power amp to take care of the left and right wet parts.
Three Tremoverbs might be a bit overkill, as you'd only need to use the power sections in them.

Well technically only two: you just need your main amp and a stereo power amp for the wet effects, which will power both wet cabs...if you don't have a stereo power amp for wet fx, then yes you'd need a third amp.
