from listening to the ratt tune you referenced it sound like a FRIEDMAN HBE modded marshall w/scumbacks.

perhaps you need a Hairy Pink Taco

I take it that is 80s-influenced?

ever look around tonefinder ??

http://tonefinder.com/?section2=amp

Thanks for the link. I've been listening to a lot of samples on the page and maybe my initial description of the kind of tones I'm seeking was a tad bit off, as I seem to like some of the brighter tones and not all of the dark stuff. However, the bright tones I like seem to sound big and bold. If I were to revise my initial request-

1) I want an amp that has a warm, Dumble-ish clean tone- less spank, more mids/ bass
2) As my main sound, I want a Marshall Super Lead/ EVH Brown sound
3) As a lead channel, I'd like something in the realm of SLO/ Mark IV/ Caswell # 39. Somethig with great gain, but it should have somewhat of a spongy feel.

From the tones I listened to, I compiled a short list. Some of the amps are out of my price range, some aren't, and some I know next to nothing about In no particular order-

Elmwood m90 or m60 (I don't know much about Elmwood amps)
EVH 5153 mini (I had the big 5150 for years and had a love hate relationship with it. I think mine was a dud. the blue channel sucked on mine. Maybe I'd like the blue channel on the mini?)
Fryette Sig X z9Sounds like it can do a lot of things well)
Framus Dragon (might be a little too dark and modern, but otherwise sounds ok)
Splawn QR (I like how the QR sounds, but hate how it feels)
Cammeron CCV (great high gain, not so great clean, seems to have a lot of treble)
Wizard Modern classic (sounds sexy!- Price is going to be an issue)
Jet City 100/ 50 (sounds like a great amp for the price.)

I might be able to pick up a Jet City 100/50 or 5153 mini as they're relativity cheap. As for the rest of them, which would you choose?

Another vote for a Splawn Nitro. It sounds like everything you want.
It's a darker amp.
Smooth overdrive that has very little compression.
It can get very aggressive sounding with the right guitar and gain settings.
Thick tone that sounds like a Mark IV and a Triple Recto blended together.
Price is great
Build quality is excellent.

Does a nitro have the same feel as a quickrod? I hated the feel of the QR.

Rossness, what about trying the new combo 5153?? Seems to me they may have addressed the issue of the inconsistent blue channel between the 50 and 100 watters. I keep hearing this. Some people get duds, others are happy with it. Maybe they've addressed the issue?

The Nitro has more personality and feedback in term of feel than the QR. Think slightly dryer, tighter version of an Uberschall.

Maybe, but for half price of the new combo, I can get a used 50 watter. I dunno. I might have to get something like a cheap EVH + some other amp.

This guy gets really good tone out of his-
