I'm sick of my stupid hipster vintage amps with no gain. I want something for metal. I've never really had any high gain amps except some stupid Mesa Boogie combo way back.

What should I be looking at with a rough 1500 dollar budget?

That little Engl Fireball 25 looks nice, but dunno if it's loud enough.
Other amps was thinking about: 6505, some of those solid state Orange things look sort of interesting (Super Crush and Gain Baby).
Maybe build some hotrodded JCM800 thing from Ceriatone or Weber?

What else is out there?

Mt100 if that is your price range

While I'd usually recommend some used variant of 5150 or 6505 head and a 4x12 cab for heavy stuff for that budget, you could always just look out for a used 6505 60w 1×12 combo and swap out that sheffield speaker for an eminence swamp thing (or whatever suits you). That'll get you some decent heavies for under $900 or so.

I'd say the Engl would be loud enough on top of a good 2x12 or 4x12, my Mini Rectifier was when I used to gig. Our drummer was a regular hitter, no king kong, but I had no problem cutting through. It all depends on how loud you need it to be.

I'd look around on the used market too.

I'm not sure what I need to do to convince you to buy my Hughes and Kettner Black Spirit 200w amp head. The amp has 4 channels, built in effects, built in noise Gate, stores 128 presets. All programmable by the foot controller which you would normally have to buy separately, but i will include it. Make me an offer if you'd like!

The El34 Iconic is hard to beat for a reasonably priced amp.
This.

I've had both 100w Stealths, and 3 5153 50s...non Stealth. All cool but the Iconic I heard smoked them all. For 800 bucks. MT 100 is a cool amp too, and great for the price. But maybe a little over what the OP wants to pay.
