Hey guys, haven't posted for a while. got caught up with life stuff and motorcycles and women. Just bought my first guitar in 2 years. My taste has changed a little, and I'm not totally sure what amp to go for. My last rig was a VHT Deliverance 60 with a Mills Acoustics cab, which i fucking loved. I will forever kick myself for selling that cab. I loved the VHT and don't have a problem getting another one, but I'd like to try something else first.

What would you guys recommend for this sound? Classic Swedish death metal. I know what it was when Entombed did it-- a Peavey VTM with a Boss Hm-2 and a LP. But I dont like using pedals, and I'm curious what else people would recommend.

contemporary knock-off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_HRhZOQ9WI (jcm800 + vtm + hm2 pedal)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEZ2Q8vlI6E (pretty sure this is older ampeg vt + a sunn model T, dunno what pedals)

taken to an extreme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kt1gYAMICpc think this is Marshalls with pedals.

I played a 5150iii 50 watt today, and I loved it like I used to, and it seems like I could get pretty damn close to this sound. and still be able to do other stuff fairly easily.

any thoughts appreciated.

Hangman 2D
^This or buy a BOSS HM-2. That's exactly what was used to make those tones. Especially the clips around 2:30 on that first video. Classic HM-2 tones right there.

IMO no it's not. I've played it and have a HM-2 of my own. The Hangman is less buzzy and has better low end to it but I don't think it's worth the extra cash. For me, the appeal of the HM-2 is getting nasty tones like that on the cheap. :)
