I am in a gigging 80's metal band. I currently use a JCM205h into a Marshall 1960ahw cab and it sounds great at practice and its ease of use is great at gigs. However imo it falls a little short in recording and in overall sounds. I have recently played a Splawn Quickrod and Nitro and the Quickrod was absolutely awesome, but the price is rather steep over here £1700!
I am in two minds now. I love the sound of cranked Superleads and when I owned my superbass it was one of my best tones, albeit it was a pain in the ass to use at short gigs. And I would love to try out all the stuff people are doing (slaving, variacs, simple mods) thanks to the Metro forum clips.
The options are get a early 70's JMP a hotplate and either load it down or mod it and use that for recording and bigger gigs. Or order a quickrod from USA or used and sell the JVM?
What would you recommend?
