I need a budget head, under 600, even cheaper is better.

- 50w or more
- decent master volume, doesn’t have to be absolutely cranked
- can do high gain, not necessarily modern metal, boost is fine
- not too bright, good with single coils
- can do a good generic rock crunch, medium gain
- cleans up decently with volume controls
- prefer a more open tone and British flavor but whatever, budget first
- easy to find, not a ‘if you’re patient...’

doesn’t have to be stellar but passable and reasonably fun to play

currently playing a 2204 but it has to be stupid loud to do the trick. idk what really fits the budget, 5150s don’t sound great with single coils IMO.

oh yeah and before the katana suggestion comes, I have the head. It’s ok, sounds good at low volumes but too bright and takes too much tweaking to work for a band for me. Still new and playing around with it though.

marshall dsl50...

DSL50 was my first thought.
Laney GH50L would work well too.

Crate Stealth. 300 at most, good clean, loop, and 2 gain channels.

Yes, I'm serious. Lol

I'm going to second the Laney GH50L or 100L... they are built well and sound great

I'd throw the Egnater Renegade into the ring, should be able to get one below 600 in America land.

If you like your current amp why not get an attenuator, or have it modified to have power scaling so you can get the cranked sound at low volumes?

However, they're some of the loudest amps I've owned, (owned the 50 & 100). Great amps though.

+1. Spend the money on a Fryette Power Station.

Jet City JCA50.... change out p.o.s stock tubes, $20 in parts, a soldering iron, couple mods... and you have alot of usable tone for $475 all in.

Yeah this right here. Maybe the Jet City Amelia?

Peavey Ultra and Ultra+. Essentially the JSX before Joe signed on. Great amps. I was able to get my ElectraDyne for $600 on the nose. I don't think that's the norm though.

Jet City 50
Orange Dual Terror (Its only 30 watts)
Bugera 1960 or 1990
Traynor YCS50
Mesa Boogie Stiletto Ace
Fender Hotrod Deluxe
Randall RM100 plus modules
Krank Chadwick
