I'm a huge fan and was just listening to their cd and god they have the best guitar tones. Anyone know what amps they use in the studio or if they even regularly use specific amps for recording?

I thought I once read they were using JVM's? Take that with a grain of salt, I could be making that up.

If I'm not mistaken, I saw one of them using an Engl in one of their vids.

They must play teh brootlz when no ones looking.

There must be skin tight leather under the spandex and jars of black and white makeup and inverted cross jewelry stashed under the pickguards of those Hamers.

Satchel has been using a stock DSL-100 on tour, from what i have seen and heard

What’s your main stage rig?

I usually go direct into a Marshall JCM2000. It’s got a lot of gain, and I don’t have to use any external foot pedals or distortion or anything. I just crank it up. I don’t even use any reverb. I just go totally dry so you can hear every note, and then I let the sound guy put stuff on it so it’s all garbled out front.

Do you control everything from the volume of your guitar?

Yeah, I’ve got a footswitch that will switch me to a clean channel. Obviously you need that once in a while, but most of the time it’s distorted and loud. That’s what heavy metal is all about. Sometimes I’ll turn my volume knob down like old-school Van Halen for the cleaner stuff, but usually we’re just loud and distorted. I just use one rippin’ channel on a JCM2000 and crank it.

No pedalboard at all?

Not really. I’ve tried those before but most of the solos don’t have that many effects on them. Once in a while I’ll add some reverb and delay, or experiment with a new distortion pedal, but right now I’m just running it dry. To be honest, I do so many kicks and jumps onstage the pedalboard just gets in the way.

FYI - I've seen videos with JVMs, DSLs and TSLs...

Yep, I was also going to say JVM-DSL-2000's. Distortion is distortion when it is coming at ya live! It just has to be crunchy.. Vinnie Moore was using 2000's on the live UFO DVD they released a few years back and his tone is awesome. Almost bought one after that.

you can see a triple xxx in one of the youtube satchel solos. sounds killer too

My bad. I was referring to the band Rock Sugar who does covers.
Fun band too.

Yeah Im really just curious to know what amp/amps they use in the studio. I've seen a lot of vids of them live and seen Satchel play rectos, XXX's, and DSL2000, a long with a JVM here and there.

One thing to keep in mind is that these guys do a lot of out of town gigs, so I'm pretty sure the gear is going to change based on what the venue can supply at the time. Id gather his rider has a list of amps that he feels comfortable using. That's more then likely why you will see him playing either a xxx, recto,DSl jvm etc etc in videos.

Id say that if you wanted to know what he used on the studio, you would have to drop him an e-mail and he seems cool enough to answer you ;)

He payed a jcm2000 at the whisky in september last i was there.

I am willing to wager this is the correct answer. Satchel is such a good player, he can probably make a couple hands full of amps sound just fine.
