This was posted on another forum and I thought it was interesting.

Would this be beneficial to you?
Do you feel it is accurate to a degree?

Basically this guy came up with a way to use statistics and 'regression analysis' to come up with a guide to buying used guitars. Essentially 1/3 to 1/2 of the original retail price if I'm reading it right. I'm more of an amp guy so guitars don't turn me on as much but I know a lot of your guys buy and sell used guitars.

Your thoughts?

Man he went through all that effort when it was easy to know it's approximate 35% of new value. Allot of other variables also.

I sold a Stratocaster Deluxe w/ Quilted maple top for what I paid, less the original shipping cost. But there were very few of those made and practically none available used (no longer made When I sold it).

Conversely I bet I couldn't get 450 for my Charvel that I paid 650 for.

Well according to Craigslist sellers, they're worth about twenty bucks less than retail. For rig-talk sellers they're worth whatever the seller paid for it in the classifieds last week, plus shipping and PayPal fees. Over at TGP they're worth retail, plus extra for whatever corksniffing pickup and hardware upgrades were made, including labor for the luthier to install said upgrades. Those guys still haven't mastered the soldering iron or string winder yet. They might break a nail.

My wife thinks my KxK Sii 7 I bought last year from Adam was $500...

Gear seems to go for 50-75% of new cost, unless its a rare piece. And that's if it is in good or better condition.

The 30-50% of original retail was pulled directly from reverb.com.

It was a statistical exercise. The link to the mafs is in the OP.

Obviously guitars DO SOMETIMES sell for a lot more and lot less than the average.

Surely they are just worth what someone is willing to pay.

It all depends on the guitar. There are a few I'd pay a lot for...even more than New since they are rare or hard to buy.

Depends on how much it will impress others in a NGD post :poke:
