I dig Greenbacks, MC90's, 65's, Scumback M75's, and Mesa V30's. Don't really have a favorite but I'd be ok with any of those, well V30's would be holding up the rear.

The lone wolf on this one but being frustrated by the fizzies with greenbacks, I decided to chance the Lynch SuperV and I love it. Just ordered another today. Planning to run them in an X pattern with either the two greenbacks i have left, some WGS vet 30's, or 55hz reapers. I guess I've learned that i hate ice pick and i hate the fizzies. Greenbacks are too fizzy.. the V's are tight. They are essentially good v30's! Warmer on the top.. nice and crunchy.

My favorite by far are the Blackback 30's w/55 hz
I would have guessed MS12's were your 2nd favorite, at least among the high wattage speakers.
Just curious if there were any of those speakers you didn't care for much?

I've used or tried just about everything out there and I keep coming back to these in this order. It would really take something phenomenal to displace the Retro 30's in my Orange 2x12. They really are the perfect V30-ish speaker IMO.

Super V's are rated for 150 watts! I know it is crazy.. you'd think you get zero breakup but they crunch up nicely. No $hit I know.. Run a full 100 watter off one speaker. That is convenience. Only come in 8 ohm though.

The retro is described as having MORE top end than the v30 isn't it? What about beam of death or ice pic ear rattling? I think i am interested in gowing that route to pair a v30 type speaker up with 2 super v's.

The ice pick you hear from the V30's is from the abundance of upper mids that speaker has. That can get confused with treble, but the V30 lacks treble in my opinion.Kapo_Polenton":2leq4nfx said:

The speaker configuration, to me, outweighs the actual speakers. If they're in a X pattern, that's the main thing.

Well sir, I have the P50's in a VHT Fatbottom cab and the V30's in an Engl XXL (oversized) cab. Both are front loaded. I run both cabs together. I have recently thought about running an X pattern with p50/v30 mix. I have been too lazy to do it because VHT solders all their connections and it would require me to fire up the soldering iron (God forbid).
I use to run an X pattern of v30's and G12K100's and it was pretty good. I really like what the P50's bring to the table. TThey seem to smooth things out when combining with the v30 cab. The one thing I can tell you is that the V30 is a much louder speaker than the P50 so maybe an X pattern is not the best idea but I may try it anyway.

The only speaker I currently own is V30's, but I'm not a fanboy. I don't dislike them either. They're great at what they do, tight tight riffing, clean mids, and they take to high volumes really well, compressing nicely rather than distorting. There are other speakers out there though, and if I ever decide to invest in something new it'll be something more low end heavy with less focus on the midrange. Maybe T75's or something. I definitely like pretty much every high gain clip I've heard from Greenbacks though. Definitely a look-into as well for me.
