What can you tell me about KT88's??

How much influence do power tubes really make on modern high gain amps? Isn’t the tone mostly pre-amp?

Unless you really push the amp I can’t see how it makes much of a difference really.

I agree. However, there's definitely a difference in a 6L6 and EL34 at any volume. I'm leaning more towards trying some 6CA7's for a more british flavor.

Did you try the E-34L's in there yet? I like how those sound in the Thrasher but again they aren't known for long life....I bet a pair of KT-88 would sound awesome as long as they aren't too stiff like the 6550....I have JJ 6L6G in my 120 but that's because they are as stable as fuck.........

Man, I love 6550s in any Marshall style amp, I don’t find them “stiff” at all. To each their own I guess.

Years ago I was going to get KT-88s put into a Splawn amp I ordered and was trying to decide between those or the EL-34s. I ended up getting KT-77s in there and loved them because still had the EL-34 feel but nice low mid focus and seemed to add a tad more highs.

JJ KT77's have been a staple in the many amps that have come and gone. Have them in my Yeti. They may be the obvious choice, once again. However, I put JJ 6CA7's in the Triple XXX I sold Tronald Dump, and those things killed in that amp!
