Just installed a quad of Sovtek power tubes and now it's time to start playing with the pre amp tubes.
All of the tubes were pretty old when I bought this over the summer. The new power tubes really helped. Looking to get heavy rock tones. I don't use the clean channel so i'm not concerned with that.
Right now it has...
v1 Electro Harmonix 12ax7eh
v2 v3 v5 ARS 12ax7a/7025
v4 JJ 12ax7

What do you guys like?

V1 - Ruby HG+
V2 - Ruby HG
V5 - Ruby HG
V3 - Ruby HG
V4 - Mullard

My 5150 block still has the original square getter Chinese. The tubes have tons of flash between the spacers and just look real high-mileage. But I've tried rolling tubes in it and...well it still has those old ass square-getter Shugs.

I thought my 5150 was getting muddy/flubby in the low end. Wanted it as close to stock as possible. Went with Ruby power(had Boogies in there) and JJ pre. Made zero difference. It was all in my head. Happened again a few years later. I have two 5150 heads. Swapped the tubes. Again zero difference.

V1 tung sol
V2 jj ecc83
V3 penta 12ax7
V4 sovtek lps

I cant speak for the 5150 directly but I've been using a mix of tubes in my Rivera Knucklehead Tre Reverb.
V1 Ruby 12AX7HG+
V2 Ruby 12AX7 HG
V3 Ruby 12AX7 HG
V4 JJ ECC83S (reverb driver)
V5 Sovtek 12AX7LPS

V1 Tung Sol
V2 EH
V5EH
V3/V4 Loop and PI Sovtek LPS

Always had great results with Ruby 6L6 GCZ power tubes...aka...high grade selected JJ6L6...
