What effect pedal/device would you recommend for a w/d/w rig

I’m evaluating getting a Lexicom MPX1, but dont know if that is the best choice for what I want. Effects wise, I’m looking only for a nice delay, reverb and chorus sound.

Wonder if an Eventide H9 pedal would work. Or maybe a G Major. Anyway, your recommendations are much appreciated.

I have the MPX1 but I also have 2 H9s as well that I use in w/d/w. I actually prefer the H9s because the MPX1 is a pain in the ass to program. The H9s are great with the iphone ap. I prefer the rack form of the MPX1 though. I had a G-major II with a w/d/w rig too, but sold it and bought a second MPX1. Sound-wise, I prefer the MPX1 for delays/reverb over the G-major. I wish Fractal would put out an effects only single space rack unit. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Why two H9’s?

Why two H9’s?

I have 6 amps and its easier than rerouting cables when I want to play a different amp. I was even debating buying another one that was listed in the classified today. Lol

I'll second that... it can be done, but it's a freakin' pain.

I'll second this, too. I think the G-Major switches programs faster (due to software differences), but it's been awhile since I've seriously messed around with either.

Yep... Me, too! :D

I just wish someone made relatively affordable rack-mounted guitar processors anymore. Everything seems like it includes amp modelling, and while I know I can turn that off, it just seems like extra juice that could've been used someplace else. Really good rack effects are really geared towards professional recording and are priced accordingly (new Eventide H9000 is $7000).

Although this isn't the reason mhenson42 gave, I would do this because there can be a slight delay switching between algorithms. Having two would allow more seamless effects changes. That would work best with a mixer, but you could do that just running them in series.

Not sure what your budget is, but for similar prices, you could get into something like a Yamaha SPX900 or SPX1000, or a TC M2000. The Yamahas can't really do more than one effect at a time (a few exceptions), but they sound better, IMHO, than the MPX1. For a little more, you could look at Lexicon PCM80/81/91. A little more for a Yamaha SPX2000, a TC M3000, or an Eventide Eclipse. As with the MPX-1, the Eclipse has some delays during program changes, not sure about the M3000, but I think they're better sounding units.

Then again, I've heard LOTS worse than the MPX1 or the G-Major. I still own the MPX1 an both versions of the G-Major (thought the first was better sounding, the second was more flexible). I think you'd be just fine with any of the above. After you've lived with it awhile, figure out what you do like about it and what you don't. Then, maybe see if there's something else that might be a better fit.

How do you place the H9’s in the rig?

Line out of amp - into MLC Dual Stereo Line Mixer - out to H9 - back to mixer - out to Matrix power amp - out to wet cabs

I can add multiple FX units in and out of the mixer before it goes to the power amp.

Will an RJM Mini Mixer will get me the same basic functionality as the MLC dual stereo mixer?

Yes, but you will need to split you signal from the amp line out before it hits the RJM. You can use a Y cable or I used the RJM tone saver to split it when I had the mini mixer. One part of the Y goes to the FX unit and other to the RJM dry input. Then exit your FX unit to one of the inputs to the RJM.

The RJM tone save is a better choice to split the signal coming from the line out of the amp as it drops the signal down to an effects level signal. The RJM mini mixer manual says to use an effects level signal and not a line level signal.

So I will need a Tone Saver and the RJM Line Mixer? This is starting to add up.

My amp doesnt have a line out, so I was planning to use a Suhr Reactive Load. Below is the list of things I intend to use for the wdw rig. Hope I’m not missing anything.

Friedman BE amp
Friedman 4x12 cab - dry
Friedman 1x12 cabs (2) - wet
Suhr Reactive Load
RJM Mini Mixer - Possibly paired with an RJM Tone Saver
Matrix Power Amp
Eventide H9 pedals (2)

Anything I’m missing here?

You don’t need the Tone Saver if you use a Y cable from the BE line out, but then you are sending a line level signal to the RJM Mixer and the manual says not to do that. You shouldn’t need the Suhr reactive load either. The BE has a line out that you can send direct to the RJM while you also go out the speaker out to your dry cab

Oh. Didn’t think about you having an older BE. You can also use a Suhr ISO Line Out instead of a load box... it’d be cheaper

I use a Korg DL8000R with my w/d/w rig. Sounds incredible.
