I have heard people say and read articles where it is reported that the Nile guys use a laptop and a Marshall head and cab of some sort. Is this right and what's on the computer?

Egyptian porn.

Karl Sanders uses dual JCM800s, but I'm not sure about his other gear, besides some of the customs he owns.

I thought I've read a bunch of times that he uses JCM2000 DSL100s  I might be wrong, not really my type of music I've just seen this question so many times I have it memorized

DSL100 last time I checked. I know it was used for AOTW. Don't forget the Invader pickup in the bridge.

The last time I saw them live they were both playing Marshalls of some sort. I would imagine the lap top is there to run some of those crazy Egyptian chanting and sounds of mummies racing chariots you hear on the cd's :D .

They don't use the Marshalls for their main sound in the studio though. At least not on their first 5 albums. I talked with the guy that recorded all their albums except "Those Whom the Gods Detest" and he told me all the rhythm tracks on those albums is some old Roland amp Karl has had since he was a teenager. I would've never guessed that :dunno:

My mistake. I thought Bob Moore produced more of their albums, but it was the first 3. So those would be the ones with the Roland.

i have played a few jcm 2000 dsl's before but couldnt get that deep throaty tone but i guess in part of that comes from the 10-70 strings thats insane heavy.

dean V with Invaders wired to bypass the controls, the one dude uses a DSL and the other uses a boosted rockmaster. i remember karl sanders going through a whole rig run down with what the computer and all that does on the Nile board a while back

Aren't they 24.75'' scale? If so, it's not THAT tight. I'm running 12-60 on my 25'' scale guitar, and I'm not a huge fan of super taut strings. It feels like 9-46 in E. Maybe even a tad looser than that.

And as far as the laptop goes, Kolias has his own next to the drums
