I was a 10-52 user for years. Just switched to 9-42's and I love the feel. I guess old age is kicking in so so the heavier strings are going bye-bye...
I'm guessing you tune to E flat.

I've been rolling 10-60 on my LP for years. I used to tune anywhere from occassional standard and drop D but mostly standard D#/drop C#. These days I live exclusively in dropC

If I grabbed another LP, I would most likely use 10-52 for dropC, as I have that on a few other axes. That 60 is a PHAT specialty tone that I love to have in the arsenal..also there's not going lighter after going heavy gauge on the hardware for all these years

0.013" - 0.056", tuned to Standard E.

I think I might go a bit thinner, to 0.011" - 0.054".

Supposedly, the height of your stopbar is something you can play with to effect string tension though I'm skeptical it's perceptible.

I'm still playing the 10's that came on my traditional from the factory. It's been a few months, so probably time to change them. I will probably stay with 10's as they still are easier to bend than the 9's on my super strat. I might top wrap them though and lower the stopbar in the (vain) hope of adding sustain. ;)

It's personal preference, but I use 10-52 on all my guitars. That said, pain is not worth messing with. If it's hurting, by all means change gauges but also check your posture, strap length, technique etc. It may not be a strictly string gauge thing. Have you been working out more recently? Anything else that could've caused it?

You know me too well.

for over 20 years, 9-42 on all 4 of my standards never an issue

Gibson strings last longest i have found, I use to use 10-46 , then to 9-46. now recently to 9-42 , the bends are easier and they make playing effortless.

I go 10's but if I am going to keep one tuned down to D I'll use 11's.
