I've got a lot of nice axes laying around but it's the usual suspects... Tele's, strats, LP's, vintage style hollow bodies, ect.

While I really love the way my Les Paul with low output pickups sounds all gained up, I'm now wanting a guitar more dedicated to that heavier sound. Better fret access, floyd rose, higher output pickups. Versatile enough to go from Van Halen to Alice in Chains, early White Zombie, ect. I know all those tones are pretty different but I figure the right guitar could handle it all.

Not looking to spend $4000 but also not looking for a budget guitar. What would you recommend?

Not to be an ass, but do some basic research and come back and ask a more specific question.

Your les paul should handle all them tones.

The LP sounds great, I guess I was more looking for better fret access, probably a floyd rose, higher output pickups, that kinda thing.

Maybe look at a Caparison Dellinger with a Floyd Rose. Great guitars, and very reasonable used.

All bullshit aside, USA Jackson Soloist, Ibanez Prestige, ESP Horizon, Charvel USA, all do the job and are common enough to walk into a decent store and have reasonable odds of finding a few. I currently have all of those in my space, and never paid over $1k,as I am a savvy shopper.

You said you wanted a Floyd, get a guitar with a good one (OFR, Schaller, Gotoh, Edge pro), you want humbuckers, they are easy to swap to what you like better through time, do you want a SC at all? Wiring is simple enough to add coil taps (really s/p) in on most pickups. After that it's neck and body feel and if it looks right and inspirers you.

man if you got those for under 1k i need to pay you to find guitars for me. I figure give you $250 and save like $800

Look for mislabeled ESP's selling at GC as LTD's. That's what my two were. The Eclipse was $503 after tax. The horizon was $600ish.

The USA Jackson was a fluke deal, I just saw it on Craigslist and jumped.

Ibanez Prestige are under $600 used all day every day on reverb and GC used. I got one for $250 on CL. It was just at the right time.

If you look, they are there. But I look at classifieds probably a half hour every day, so it takes a bit of effort. It's worth it to me.

Buy a Chubtone from forum member Chubtone ( Curt ), GREAT guy, GREAT guitars... like the best Charvel you haven’t played because they’re like prepros and you can spec it EXACTLY how you want it. You’ll need to extend the budget to ~1500, but it’s worth it IMO, I just ordered my fourth. Couldn’t be happier.
