Jackson Soloist SL2MG. Wasn't happy with the EMG81, so wired in a pickup that @scottosan made, kind of like a Dirty Fingers but with an A5 magnet, that was in the neck position of my Explorer. Always wondered how it would sound in the bridge position. That pup took the Soloist from being the weakest, most middy sounding long scale guitar I have to pretty even with my best, the Suhr Modern Satin Flame with mahogany body and maple top. The Suhr has more top end detail, kind of scooped in the mids, big low end, great clarity. The Soloist now has the same punch, but with a bit less highs, more mids placed a bit lower in the frequency range, and same clarity.
Now I just need to decide if I going to keep the Solosit, in which case I will fully convert to passive, and have to pick a neck pup. Or replace the EMG81 and flip. It's a great player, and sounds much better with the passive pup.
It’s taken me many, many years to learn how to play it. I was way too muscular with my playing when I got this. I don’t get the thin neck Ibanez thing being “easier”. It takes restraint. Which most young men struggle with. Now I’m not so young.
But man this guitar got me in love with Mahogany super strats and taught me about pickup selection and riding the volume knob. For an indication of the hours I’ve spent on it, zoom in on the middle pickup lol.
