What is the Suhr SSV like?

So I'm looking at the Suhr SSV for a LP-type guitar. I want a traditional PAF-type with a slightly hotter edge, and the specs suggest this might be just that.

What is it like? How does it compare to, say, the Duncan '59?

Thanks. :)

Thornbucker + is exactly that....and an awesome pick-up!

I’d go with a Wolftone Marshallhead
Agreed. Definitely one of the best options for what the OP is asking. I haven’t been impressed with any of the Suhr pickups including the SSV

What is it that you didn't like about the SSV? What was it like?

The Marshallhead definitely looks interesting, though.

It seemed kinda sterile to me, not much character. The Marshallhead can be clean or mean. It’s not a hot pickup but takes gain very well. It cleans up really good too when you back off the volume and still retains that high end sheen.

+1

I have the Thornbucker+ in my Anderson Bulldog and it is exactly what you described. Very PAF'ish with a bit more heat. Very articulate and it cleans up very well with the volume knob.

Another vote for the Thornbucker+. I have a SSV's in my Suhrs and love them, but they're alder bodies with maple necks. For a LP, Thornbuckers for sure.

I have a Thornbucker + in the bridge of my Heritage. GREAT pickup. Had a bunch in the bridge, it is my favorite. I have a SSV in the neck of my Suhr Modern, and it is also a great pickup, splits well too.

Go with Thornbuckers if you want Suhr. + in the bridge.
Seymour Duncan Antiques are a great PAF style that gets over looker. I see them in a lot of R8’s & R9’s instead of the custombucker.

I have a SSV in a singlecut LP jr, might be the best HB in split mode I've heard (I haven't heard them all). I love it.

Most Suhr pickups split really well.

Not been a fan of it in the neck position; a bit too weak for me, but in that vid with the 5153 it sounds great in the bridge!

I ended up going out of left field and got a set of Duncan Black Winters, lol. Thanks, though, guys. :)
