i run gain on my 5150 III between about noon and 2 .. so i guess from 5-7. if i am using my wolfgang with the x2n then i keep it at 5, if i have my wolfgang with the stock pickups it is at about 7

Fryette Ultra-lead, gain is at about 2:00 on the lead channel with the boost on the amp engaged. I use a Charvel So Cal and a Tom Anderson Drop Top, both with an H3 in the bridge.

5150 III Channel 3 gain set to between noon and 1 o'clock. Sometimes use my TC Nova Drive to boost channels 1-3 of the amp.

5150 III sounds surprisingly great with all knobs at or right around noon. It may be thickheadedness, but I think that in the modern age amps should be engineered to sound at least 'good' with all EQ's at 5 then from there you can cut and boost to taste. ENGL Blackmore is like that as well, I like that about that amp.
I would have to agree. That's pretty much where I keep my eq settings. Might vary here and there depending on the venue.

When it comes to gain I always want the least amount I can use to get the effect I want. I like as much dynamics as I can get most of the time.

Dual Recto's orange channel between 1&2:00 with an EMG afterburner.

Uberschall around 12:00 with no boost.

VH4S it's pretty much all over the place.I love to open that amp up in my studio alone.

Herbert. Haven't really used it yet, plan on having a rack built around it first.

I keep the gain at about noonish maybe 1'clock.
Run a clean boost on the amp.
Sounds awesome right there.
Thats for the 5150 and the KR7.
But I been using that setting on pretty much all my amps for the past few years.

I always found that much gain to be overkill with that amp. Anything past noon on that thing is liquid. The tone is great, but it's SO much gain.

Ibanez RG7420, DiMarzio Evo/Air Norton.

Ampeg VH140C, gain at 4.
Boss HM-2, gain at 0.

Sounds like Entombed.

With the JSX, I had the crunch channel gain maxed.

6505 212 crunch channel gain at 8.

5150 head lead channel gain at 3 with a boost.

Rhythm tone with gain on 5.

Definitely agree. I never go past noon with the gain on channel 3 for my normal playing. But I will sometimes kick on my Nova Drive with the gain set at 0 and the level full to just get a little extra bite. Think Mr. Scary.

Gain on 3 (9 o'clock), I use 14's standard tuning.

OD100 se+ gain on 5 or 6, Koko Boost with mid boost on far left position and level at 11:00. AHB 3 bridge with EMG SPC...I actually turn the SPC off quite often. Sometimes I even take the Koko out of the chain when playing rhythms but not often, I'd rather turn my guitar vol back to about 5 or 6 because the Koko is just magic with the OD100se+...takes away the low mid hump :)

Custom Audio PT100 Channel 2/3-Gain at 6.5

On another board, someone mentioned that John Gallagher from Dying Fetus has used an MT-2 with an Ampeg VH140C, so now I'm about to go grab one from a buddy's pawn shop.
