What other OD/Boost for my DSL50?

Currently I switch between an SD1, DS1, BadMonkey, Roger Mayer Stone Fuzz and I forget what else. I usually stick with the SD1 set more as a clean boost on the crunch channel and it sounds damn good.

Just wondering what other pedals I should be checking out. Is anyone here making their own pedals and come up with something killer lately?

Someone on the classifieds is selling a Soldano Supercharger GTO pedal. I had that pedal when I had a DSL50 for a while. Pedal set for a slight dirty boost with the crunch or clean channel of the DSL doing a SRV kind of thing and Sweet Mama!!! Heavy rock heaven! That was an amazing sound. Started my gas for Soldano amps   That combo was one great sound though  Pedal is a bit noisy though :aww:

I honestly don't know what i'm after lol!!!

Maybe something with more grind than the sd1 but not so buzzsawee as the ds1 if that makes sense.

I dunno Rian, I gotta feed my 3 kids ya know.

That's what I thought about. I had a long thread about the same exact thing, once all was said and done I found that I really didn't mind the sound of my sd-1, but that I wouldn't mind tweaking it. It was either spend $200 on a boutique overdrive or $15 on components and DIM :D

what does this mod do? how hard is it to perform? Spill the beans man! :D

There is a handful of different mods that you can do to it. The most basic and probably best for this pedal is a shift to the frequency response of the circuit. Take the ceramic disc capacitors that are in the lower section of the circuit board and raise their value to the next size up, this gives you more bass while rolling off some high end sizzle. Another easy mod you can do it change a few of the diodes to a different type of diode which will clip more/less depending on the change. You can even jumper the diodes (take them out and solder in a strip of metal to continue the circuit as if there was a diode there. This opens up the headroom of the pedal a lot and you get less gain but a whole lot more output. Another thing I would do is maybe change the input resistor up a value or two and the output resistor down a value or two.

Well that is a lot more information than you probably needed, but you can pick any of those you like and mix them to taste, it's your pedal man, there will never be another one like it haha. They will however always be making the stock pedals just in case you screw it up and need a 'reset button' :D

Here is a site with a few good ideas for mods for beginners.

To the OP, I have a Bad monkey too. Actually, its my first OD pedal in a long time. What's your opinion about it when compared to your other OD's?

turn up the vol. and use the git vol to make it work that the best bet....no pedal

I have not had one, but I'd be willing to bet that new koko boost that Mark demoed would kill with a dsl. I have a rocket fuel pedal that I like a lot with my 100 watt dsl

You know, I haven't used it in a while so I can't really say. I'll make sure and put it on my board for tomorrow night's rehearsal and see how it goes.

For some songs that just doesn't cut it lol. I am currently running the DSL halfway up on both channels and for some songs it just needs a kick in the nuts. :D

I got to play the Riot at NAMM and it was pretty damn cool. Maybe I should go for one of those. It was like an entire amp in one little pedal.

That would just be awesome! Thanks!

t.c. jauernig luxury drive. i just got done messing around with mine plugged into the front end of my carvin x 60. along side of it i have an sd-1 and a tube works tube driver. man does that pedal add some beef to the clean and od channels. seriously.. i could throw the sd-1 away and not miss it at all. as greg koch says.. "it sounds so good you'll wonder why you ever turn it off".
