I am curious to see what people are using in the neck of their les Pauls (clones and copies too).

I have a 490R in my LP studio that I love. I have an Aldrich neck in my LP standard LE. I am going to be experimenting with my '73 LP custom, which has the stock T-top in there now. I am going to try a SD Jazz and Gibson 490R in the neck and see if I can get it a little brighter.

All 3 of my LPC's have a SD '59. Best neck pickup ever.

Antiquities in my Edwards. I like them but don't have any basis for comparison in that guitar.

I have a 59 right now in my Hamer, happy enough to let it die there.

I love the Duncan '59 or Jazz in the neck position. I had an old SG with the Jazz in the neck and it was thick and beautiful! I have a '59 in my Ravelle. My '89 Standard has an old PAF in the neck, I don't know the exact year and it's pretty awesome. My LP Prophecy has Gibson Dirty Fingers which are pretty rocking! My Tokai LP has Alnico II's which I love. My old Studio had a 490'swhich were quite rocking as well. My PRS SC245, although not an LP, has great stock pups.

If I had to choose one for the neck position I wouldn't hesitate to put in a Duncan Jazz or '59.

Love, love love the 59. I basically have that in all my dual humbucker guitars, and just try to find bridge pickups to match it well.

The Jazz is great too. More modern sounding than the 59 for sure.

Alnico II Pro in one, Pearly Gates in the other. Love Alnico II magnets in the neck. Bridge too.

Duncan Jazz...awesome neck pickup!
thats what Ive used for years and love but Im thinking of switching over to an Aldrich set...

Alnico 2 Pro - good enough for Slash, and I love playing my LP with them.

I've got a few other LPs - there are Dirtyfingers, Burstbuckers, Timbuckers in the necks of others, but one that stands out in the neck of an LP to me is the WCR Darkburst with Alnico 2 magnet - more clarity and note separation than the A2Pro, doesn't muddy up. http://www.wcrguitar.com/darkburst.html

I too never really liked the T-Top tone in the neck of an LP - the Dirtyfingers replaced that in one of mine. Just can't recommend an A2 Darkburst enough.

I have a gibson pickup in there but I dont know what kind. It measures 8.6k. I bought it used, it sounds really nice. But it just says Gibson and nothing else.

Alnico 2 pro, I like it but I've been thinking of trying something different.

Wow, lots of love for the SD '59 and Jazz. Sounds like trying the Jazz I already have sitting around is a good move....

Alnico Pro II in neck and EVH 78' on bridge..but i am no expert on les paul stuff though it sounds good to me.
