Jazz is closer to 490. With Diezels & 101B Jazz has too much low end IMO, with my thick gauges it sounds like a bass guitar. 59 has more spark to it, which is why I don't dig it much, but it sound really cool with 101B. 490 is my favorite so far.
I have been using the Jazz for years in the necks of my LPs and I tried the Aldrich. I LOVE the Aldrich bridge but the neck did not do it for me, personally. Don't get me wrong, the Aldrich sounds great, but it's not as open sounding as the Jazz. I can turn the tone back on the Jazz and get it really close to the smoothness of the Aldrich but I could not get the articulation of the Jazz out of the Aldrich. It's certainly more of a personal taste thing than a better or worse thing. Just throwing it out there.
The T-top is a nice pickup, it just sounds a too dark for my tastes, I would like a little more mids and treble like I get from the 490R in my LP studio.
I have the Bareknuckle Steven Steven's Rebel Yell pickups, and I COULDN'T be happier with them! I've also used the Motorcity Afwayu Pickups in my LP, which sounded killer too! Like them much better than my JB / 59 setup.
I put in a SD Jazz pickup in the neck of my '73 LP custom yesterday. Huge improvement over the stock T-top. The T-top sounded dull and lifeless by comparison. The Jazz is still not as chimey as the 490R in my LP studio so I may try a 490R at some point. But so far I really like the Jazz, I can see what it was one of the most recommended pickups in this thread....
