I think I will go with a PC, you get a lot more power for the money. What interface are you guys using? Program/s? I don't want to spend a ton either. Anyone using PCs?

I'm running an M-Audio FireWire 1814. I have an SM Pro Audio PR8E and a Behringer ADA 8000 running into it for 16 mic or line inputs.
I use Reaper, which I can't recommend enough.

PC works great for me. And yeah Reaper all the way!

For an interface I went with Roland cause they had pretty good ASIO drivers back when most usb interfaces had latency issues, but I think nowadays most usb interfaces are pretty decent (I think). I might be upgrading soon to a new line they are about to release called Roland Rubix which are priced pretty good.

Other things you will most likely need are speakers and a good set of headphones and some type of drum software/vst like Ez drummer or Addictive Drums.

Focusrite 2i4 and Ableton Live Lite, which came with the Focusrite. It also came with a bundle including Redeq, reverb and compressor plugins. I use the reverb on most recording and the Redeq quite a bit as well. All done on a PC.

I use a Dell workstation running Windows 10 and Pro Tools 12.x with an Avid Eleven Rack and a Tascam US1200. Works great...

I'm using a six year old WIN 7 HP with a Focusrite 2i2 and the free version of Ableton the came with it. I'm at the point where I'm having to be creative to get things done within the 8 track limit and will probably start looking elsewhere for a DAW. To upgrade to a basic Ableton license from the free version is $350.

Reaper and TC impact twin.

If I did it over I would not get a FireWire interface because they're dead I think.

Very cheap and basic. If you're spending $$ and want nice I'd look into Apogee.

Reaper is the way to go for software on a PC, IMO. The cost and the light resource consumption are awesome.

As far as interfaces...there are just way too many options to know what to recommend without knowing what you need.

If you want something small and cheap, I like the Mackie Blackjack Onyx. Had a 2i2, and for this level, I preferred the Mackie...Not that the 2i2 is bad, its not bad at all. Liked the preamps better. Also had an 18i20, which is a great one, too. I am using a Tascam UH-7000 right now, which has really great preamps and converters.

If you need more I/Os, lots of guys seem to like the Audient stuff, too.

Also had a bigger Tascam unit (us1800 or something) that I thought was great, especially for the $200 that it cost.

I already have nice speakers, headphones, and mics from my old apple/logic setup. I will look into the rubix for sure. thanks!

I run my Axe-Fx II into my computer via USB and use Reaper and EzDrummer2. I decided the other day I'm going to get a Roland electronic drum kit. I think it would be a great hobby and hopefully I'll eventually get good enough on drums to stop using the pre-created drum parts. :)

I use a PC, Yamaha interface and reaper.
I would not recommend using a pc, however.

I've used a PC for years. Switched to Mac about 4 years ago. Haven't looked back.

That said, there's nothing wrong with PC.

If you're going with PC, Cubase is great. I hear good things about Studio One.

As for interfaces, they're all good at this point. Anything in the 200-500 range will get the job done.

PC with Reaper, Presonus 22VSL interface, and several different plugins.

Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 and Reaper. Run it on my PC and iMac.

PC with Reaper,UA Apollo Twin USB and 8 extra channels with an Audient ASP800.

Presonus Studio One with Profire 2626 on a PC
been my setup for last 5 years
