Got bored and actually set my drums back up since getting the new man cave and and beating the hell out of them. A guitar I seem to be able to pick up and polish up fairly quickly if I take some time off. Drums though is a different story. I always revert back to John Bonham....that dude could beat the skins off a set of drums.

I did put the sticks down for a couple days when my Wizard got sent back because it is such an awesome amp

Right now I'm practicing my own stuff...and I'm struggling.  I haven't played much over the last month and I'm trying to get ready for Saturday. I'm playing along to backing tracks to 4 songs from my last disc. I shouldn't be having this much trouble.

Really practicing on getting the picking as precise as I can on the song (not the intro licks). It's not incredibly difficult but I swear my right hand covers three times as much territory as Paul's...his right hand barely moves while he's picking.

I gotta believe that ANYTHING that you learn by Paul is going to make you a better player in a number of ways... BTW, Id really be pissed off if I had to play in goshdang spacesuit...

Im getting ready to dig into a couple of different tunes; Jimi-Voodoo Chile, Steve Vai-For The Love Of God, Journey-Be Good To Your Self, UFO/Schenker- Rock Bottom, Into the Arena and a bunch of other stuff, also a bunch of Blackmore from Purple to Rainbow...

My favorite guitar player and my favorite drummer in the same place.

3 note per string scale, up the neck by pairs of strings, with a metronome. Very boring at the moment, it does seem to help in getting up the neck quickly without just running an arpegio. Some good will come of it.

Rebel Meets Rebel "Cowboys Do More Dope" Should sound pretty good with my keyboard player doing the intro piano solo. Dime absolutley kills the the main solo and outro solo in this tune. Got my work cut out for me.

Love Gun by KISS. Took less than 10 minutes. I have a list of 50 I am supposed to have down by Saturday. I am sure I can wing anything I do not get down well on stage.

I've been working on Andy Timmons' Deliver Us. It's kinda cool to work up a cover after playing your own stuf for the past five years. It's a fun exercise at any rate.

been working on the solo to this song

Oh man, I used to play this in my old cover band ages ago. One of the hardest solos I ever had to ear out. I never knew how to do that EVH tap harmonic (still don't) at the end so I would just bend the high G ( I think that's the note). And, as if that solo wasn't hard enough, playing at gig speed (usually 20 bpm faster) was a bitch. Still was a fun song to play though.

Anyway, I've kinda mellowed out with the sweeps and speedy runs lately. Been working on my blues licks and feel. Just did this jam recently.

I've developed an alternate picking technique that sounds like sweeping but simpler to do and can do stuff like rhythmic arpeggiated lines or tapping sounding triplets across three strings ( but I don't tap , I don't sweep) .

So that took many many years since I'm NOT the gifted type THEN because I have small hands I've had to use a "thumb floating behind neck" thing which widens my hand a little bit but the thumb still clamps around neck ( it's still close) for frequent vibrato on longer notes and phrase endings - this is NOT as hard as it sounds-it's easier now.

So that took a few years and NOW I'm just concentrating on finishing my lines, like speaking in complete sentences and playing what's in my head, and also with properly aligned technique, my FOREARMS are building up instead of joint strain like I used to have and my fret hand can keep up with my picking .

And from concentrating on vertical playing I've had to brush up on ripping Pentatonics a bit 'cause I was neglecting them, and also I have to remember or force myself to Write chords and Rhythms- which I used to do more of before I had chops-it is a lot more fun to play but I can be less productive if not careful and frankly people will probably like my rhythms and chords better anyway just like always........
