Been playing guitar for about 28 years and I've never had a good grasp on what the "Plexi" tone really is when its referenced. Please advise!! :D

When I think pure plexi I think stuff like ACDC, Humble Pie, etc. VH to me is more goosed/abused/crazed plexi.

old AC/DC and this

Got it! I always loved the tone on the AC/DC song TNT...isnt that a JTM though? This band sounds like old ac/dc.

Deep Purple, classic single coil Plexi. Thin Lizzy, classic humbucker Plexi.

Anything from VH1, IMO.

I disagree. Plug into a stock Plexi and you never get that VH1 gain.

This is Plexi to me.

Do you have 65Amps dealer near you?
Step 1. Locate a 65Amps Empire.
Step 2. Take your guitar, plug in, Ch1. That's 60s Plexi right there, at a non ear crushing volume. (I have no need to even turn my '69 Plexi head on anymore. Empire nails it.)
Step 3. Try ch2 and ch3. Relive the 70s and 80s.
Step 4. Locate credit card and think of excuse to tell wife when you walk in the front door with (yet) another amplifier.

Van Halen is not the sound of a Plexi .....

The 65 is very cool but not the same as a plexi .... if you want to hear a plexi, go plug into a plexi and nothing else....

Gotta be Hendrix. Especially if you mean Plexi (glass...pre 1970) and not just Superlead. Also Cream era Clapton and Bad Company/ Free. Probably any rock guitar god in 1970 was using one. Actually I think the Stooges get some great sounds on Raw Power but whether they're Plexi or Metal Panel I don't know.

For 80's stuff wasn't DeMartini noted for using a '69 early on?

Thin Lizzy is awesome but they might be 70's heads they were using, who knows?

Agree .... the plexi is cleaner than the later Marshall's...

+1 on everything said here

I would take a guess that a decent amount of 70's Scorps is Plexi. It's raw but sweet on the top end. Maybe more so Uli. Just guessing but we all know how crazy the Germans are about vintage Marshall

stooges raw power has killer cranked plexi tone but think mostly were using metal panel super leads, many bands started using the jmp 2203's once they came out.

TNT, plexi, not so much. Much older AC/DC I don't know for a fact that this is Plexi, but I believe it is:

Anything by Free.
Hendrix, a Plexi with fuzz.
New stuff... Airborne does a great Plexi sound.
