I generally run it through small block 25's, but also like it through v30's

Cool, what's the sonic difference between speakers?

Small Block 25's are Splawn's take on Celestion Greenbacks, though they (to my ears) had some of the highs tapered off, mostly noticeable if you're standing directly in front of the cab. They're also rated at a higher wattage. I preferred old school Greenbacks/Blackbacks to the SB 25's.

The QR can get very middy/honky if you don't watch it (not to start a weird mids debate, haha), but that's what I liked about the amp. I enjoyed pairing it with V30's and used it more with my Mesa V30 cab than any other, and it would slice through just about any mix with that pairing. I don't care what others were using, you couldn't drown a QR/V30 combo if you tried. You will be heard. My old QR saw a fair amount of use through a '76 Marshall Blackback cab as well.

Thanks man, great advice.

You talkin live/band type setting or studio/mic'ing? If the later, a Greenback/H30 Anniversary setup is pretty killer with the QR...the Greenie giving you the chew, the G12H30 bringing the chunk. Otherwise, the Smallblock 25's are a perfect QR match for an all around balanced tone (as QR's go).

as mentioned already the sb25's are a greenbackish flavor. They sound more modern and handle bottom end very well. I think they work very nicely with the quick rod and also play very well with my jcm 800 and brown eye.

V30's can be a little bright for some, but i happen to love it with my quick rod. The mids are really snarly and in your face kinda what im looking for out of most of my amps. I also do not think the quick rod has weird mids to be honest i think it has too much bass!

This. I always had trouble dialing out the massive sub lows it had through some cabs. I didn't know anyone thought the same as me in that respect, haha.

I pair my older QR (shared EQ, no gears) with a Splawn 4x12 with man o wars and guv'nors

Dude it has a lot of bass in gear 1 for my tastes but i can dial it out by setting it around 9 o clock, but gear 2 has an incredible amount of bass! I generally like bright tones ahahah
