anyone heard the re-recorded version of clayman that they just put out? its the first time the re-record sounds EONS worse than the original. Clayman had an iconic and killer guitar tone, and the production was the last IN FLAMES record where the losers in the band weren't producing it in their own rinky dink studio on the cheap. This sounds like a shitty bedroom demo on a macbook in comparison. plus it lacks the original energy since everything sounds so generic. why are these guys constantly tarnishing their legacy?
gtfo with this.

i am a former super fan btw. i saw them live 16 times between 1999 and 2006. :scared:

They've been complete garbage for like a decade now, so I'm not surprised

Holy crap, what are they doing? That intro...what even was that? The guitars sound like they used some cheap modeler, the drums have no punch. I used to really like In Flames, but for some reason they started trying to sound like Korn, and I was out. And now for some reason they are doing this?

They had two or three great albums (can't remember) then went to shit well over a decade ago.

They lost me at the Reroute to Remain album, which was 2002. So yeah, almost two decades ago and I feel old as hell right now. :aww:

Don't agree with that....Jester Race was phenomenal. Whoracle and Colony both rocked! Clayman killer, Reroute to Remain very good. So I'd say 5 really good albums. But after Reroute, it was done.

to the OP....I don't care about the new recordings either. Metal sucks.net had a great story a couple weeks ago "In flames re-records Clayman and the internet loves it!' Which was total sarcasm, cuz nobody likes it. Listen...It's an entirely different lineup, the magic isn't there, Chris Broderick is even a member now, which to me is too little too late. Exceptional guitarist, but can't save the singer from himself. I actually feel bad Broderick went from Megadeth to that. :aww:

I will still buy the re-release of Clayman cuz I want the original on vinyl. I won't be playing the new recordings at the end. I'm not really happy they changed the artwork even....shoulda kept it the same.

I take that back...just looked...prices range from $34-49.99 between Nuclear Blast and Amazon....That's hella spendy...I'll wait

I would even draw the line at Whoracle. Colony and Clayman were great albums in their own respect but they have already softened up by that point.

The production on this new one and the recent ones sound like pop plastic crap. They think their new sound is so much better they must have said to themselves, imagine if our older (yet still catchy) material had this new production?? It would be so much better!!

Triple NOT!!!

Jesper drunk and then Jesper out...

This is where everything ends...

Same thing happened with Hammerfall...Jesper leaves...everything goes downhill...

Funny, I'm exactly the opposite. I think the new version is a lot better. The original is hard to listen to, no midrange and the vocal production is quite poor. It's fatiguing to listen to. I also only like the albums since Jesper left. I had no idea that was the reason for the change in sound and songwriting. I'm not that big of a fan.

I’m out the loop. Never heard of this band. But I’m damn near 50.

Everything sounds so separated and sterile in this recording and I dislike the vocals. Not a fan. Haven’t liked anything they put out since the original release of Clayman - came to terms with it years ago, they’re a different band making music that isn’t for me.

Their mom’s don’t even know they’re in a band ?

I'm a huge Broderick fan! His playing with Megadeth and when he was with Jeff Loomis in Nevermore was nothing short of awesome.
I think it's been downhill for him since he left Megadeth. His solo Project never got any traction, even thought the guitar playing was out of this world, the song writing was not great and I just couldn't get into it.
I hope he pairs back up with Loomis or goes back to Megadeth.

C'mon Dan! Your ass doesn't look a day over 24 in your hot pants!  :D

In Flames was my #1. Brought my playing to a new level learning their stuff. I still play Gyroscope and Moonshield first when trying out a new guitar or amp. I've seen them every time they were in my area, bought their stupid comic books (which I actually recently threw out), day dreamed about being that one fan that won the contest to perform with them on stage. I used to put on their albums and play along to them front to back. An In Flames dick rider 100%. The Jester Race/Whoracle era still inspires my playing and tone to this day. I rode with them all the way up to Soundtrack.

All that being said I cannot fucking stand the absolute garbage tier shit they put out now. Come Clarity was a kick in the fucking teeth and they never stopped putting that kind of bullshit out. I understand bands change, but this change is just objectively not good. When bands that are their peers like Dark Tranquility and At The Gates are still churning out their heaviest albums, there's no excuse. They've lost touch with their original fanbase. The fact they'd redo Clayman like this is proof.

So I got into In Flames when i saw them same day my band played Milwaukee Metalfest. They were in the adjacent room. This was 98. The standouts to me at that were In Flames and Nile, and Marduk. In flames were on Colony album and Nile were catacombs of NK. They both were just killer!

That being said, to me at that time, In Flames and Soilwork kinda hit our scene and we took notice. But can say the same thing for Soilwork. Chain heart Machine, Predator's Portrait, and Natural Born Chaos were killer. Once the Witchers, Peter, left(who works for Jackson now), done...

Hell, even Opeth...Once Martin Lopez(drummer, and Peter Lindgren left...done.

They apparently rerecorded 3 of the tunes as part of a remaster of Clayman. That makes me feel better about it; it shifts the context from "In Flames are dumb enough to rerecord one of the most iconic metal productions" to "over-the-hill band including a well-meaning but misguided bonus to convince you to buy the same album twice".

What blows my mind is that it's mixed by CLA. He's much better than this amateur-hour production. If you're gonna swing at the king, you better not miss, and this production is the biggest miss I can imagine.
