What the fuck is wrong with in flames?!!

In Flames actually used to be my favorite band for a long while in the early and mid 2000's, and I still think their Clayman album is one of the best produced metal albums ever made. I saw them live in Atlanta in the early 2000's just after Reroute came out. Most of their set was of earlier songs from before that album thank goodness. It was such a great show.

But yeah, their last several albums have been unlistenable trash and the Clayman remake is even worse. It's just so boring and uninspired. There is absolutely zero energy or spirit in it. Comparing the original feels like they went from making blockbusters to made for TV movies.

It's almost impressive how far they've fallen.

I bought Clayman before I had ever heard the band. The album cover reminded me of the artwork I wanted to put on my album when I was 16. What a surprise when I took it for a spin in my car. It is perfection on all levels. Why would any of these bands re record their stuff? Older, more tired, why? Same with Lynch and Wicked Sensation. Utter nonsense.

I never cared for N*Flaymez (boyband spelling for those too young to get that). By the time I heard much of their music, I was already listening to heavier stuff, and they were just starting to get a taste for the Nu-metal market. I do remember reading a profile in Guitar World way back then (early 00's) where Jesper had a Korn album listed as a new favorite or something- I thought that was odd after having seen them so hyped up in metal forums at the time. Good for them for making money off the Hot Topic kids, it's a shame they had to sound so lame to do it.

N'flaymez?! what a throw back to the metal maniacs bbs days

they have zero ear for production. i think Reroute to remain (which, albiet different for them, i loved) was the first album to dabble in their own production style. every album after that got progressivly worse production wise, and fast. They were doing diy, computer based studios in rented houses in europe for some of those albums. All the guitars sound like they're direct through a processer. the drums sound sampled and quantized, anders over producing the hell out of his own weak singing voice, etc. At a certain point, literally every song started to sound exactly the same. to the point where it just sounded like they were slapping on anything. The production is just so dull and cookie cutter. every bad computer recording cliche can be heard.

The new album "I the Mask" is great. I would love to see them live with Chris Broderick. I haven't heard the Clayman redo...

They've been complete garbage for like a decade now, so I'm not surprised
Closer to two decades, but yeah.

Love the Colony album. Couldn’t get into anything after Clayman. I did in general tire a bit of the Swedish sound at this time anyway after listening to it intensely for almost 10 years and wanted a more raw sound. I can always revisit Colony era though. Just amazing arrangements, riffs, grooves, melodies and amazing sound. Every time I put it on I think I want to buy a 5150 but those amps haven’t been me for my personal style for a long time..lol
