What to apply when playing VH4-S mono?

That should work, but be careful, it will get VERY hot. You should build a box or something for it, with a heat sink. That's how those high power resistors are designed to work.

would it be better to use a 100W-model of the load resistor?

If you plan to crank the amp, sure, but the above still applies, the resistor needs a metal radiator to dissipate the heat.

If at all possible, try to wire the cabinet to stereo so that you could double-plug the head into it and go from there. It would be the safest bet - and also, allow you to utilize the head too its fullest extent :D

I was told from the powers that be, that when running my VH4S mono to just turn down the unused side and that would be safe.

When I had this amp....I bought a cheap cab to take the load.
But I am pretty Sure Pappa said just turn the unused side to zero should be safe....

I'm willing to bet a pack of strings there's no chance in HELL Papa Peter, or Stapfer, or anyone in the know, would say this was okay... I remember the thread from ages ago - and Peter simply said MUST HAVE LOAD!!! And at the time, T.H. also concurred, not that his opinion matters anymore...

Just saying.

Hey!! V. Do I get anything?? That is one of the most expensive amps I have ever bought, so I figured the guy who built and signed my amp would be able to guide me thru proper operation, If you cant trust Papa Diezel, who the hell can you trust? I believe you said :gethim: so now maybe its

PM me your addresses and a set of EB Slinky's or Beefy's (your choice) will be mailed to you - I'm a man of my word... That's for you both - I'm not a cheapskate.

I could have SWORE Mr. Diezel specifically said NO to using only one side of the amp with no load, and volume turned to zero.

Even my brain has its days (daze)...

Peace, Love, Pollyanna - and a new set of strings...
V.

HAHA, No strings needed dude, this is good enough!

Well, I appreciate that - but I am a stand up cat, and would send you some strings...

What I find more interesting is your signature compared with mine - I do believe I am a professional insane person, your sig has reinforced this notion.

Thanks!

Its cool man........I was on the fence till Pops confirmed me.......
No worry on the strings. I have plenty. :D
Rock on brothers!!

I'm pretty sure Peter meant it is safe to turn down one side as long as it's output is still connected to a load (which defeats the purpose of running a mono cab to begin with)...

Read the VH4S manual. It states: "Do not ever run the VH4S without having speakers connected to both sides [of the output section]." I assume this means even if you turn the unused side's master to zero. But I could be wrong.

And I've got to add this little bit of info... An email from Peter himself:

Hello Mo,
this will work but to be safe use a dummy load.
Best regards,

Peter

Just sayin'...

Yup....thats what he told me as well.
I didnt feel comfortable doing it without a 2nd cab even though Pops said it was cool...so I bought a cheap 2nd cab used from guitar center to use for the left channel.

DAMN I MISS THAT AMP!
