What to do with my Splawn?

I bought a new QR100 at Christmas. It was actually a demo model. Long story short, I don't want it anymore. I want to get rid of it.

Some specifics about the amp are that I bought it from Scott for $1700 back in December. I asked him if he could change the headshell from a plexi style to an 800 style, and he did. It came with the "salt and pepper 'basket weave'" grill cloth for some reason, and I did not like it, so I made the decision to spray paint the grill cloth black to look like a proper 800. It looks good. The only issue with the amp is that I accidentally stepped on the cable while playing it once and the input jack is now broken inside on the plastic threads. I took the amp out of the chassis and put the input jack back on as best I could. It wobbles a bit, but it works. It needs replacing at some point.

What should I do? Should I try to sell it back to Scott, or should I just list it on CL?

It's under warranty. Should I send it in for repair then sell it?
 
I completely lost interest in music and guitar altogether. I could also use the money.

I'm not sure how something you broke through accidental negligence is a warranty repair. :confused:

Nonetheless, I'm sure Scott would fix it for you for free. Seems like an easy fix for any local tech though.

Also not sure why Scott would buy the amp back from you for anything more than the cost of the parts. You are better off selling on the forums and disclosing the issue or getting it fixed first then selling.
 
Warranties don’t cover you breaking the input by stepping in a cord. It’s just the way it is.

As the owner of many Splawns over the last 11 years, I’d say prepare to take the loss if you sell. They are great amps but even in mint condition, yours is still a “used” amp. If you get 1300-1400, consider it a win. Probably more like 1000-1200. I’d keep it for when your interest in guitar comes back (and it will).
 
So you spray painted the amp and broke it and you want to recoup top dollar? List on CL if you don't want to ship but you will take a huge loss. If your ok with shipping I would list in on Reverb.com for a slightly higher price and add make an offer option. Then accept an offer you can live with. I sold an amp on there last week in about 6 hours for much more than I could get on the forums. I would get the input jack repaired locally. Should be an easy fix and will help your sale. No one wants to buy an amp that needs repair unless it is dirt cheap.
 
Scott will not buy it back. I would do some research on actual QR sales. You will not get close to what you paid if you are trying to recoup all your spend. They average between $950-1200 shipping included.

I'd honestly be okay with getting a few hundred dollars less, but I'm definitely not going down below $1200. I'll take it to an amp tech for repair, then list it.

Good luck getting what you want for it. Hope it works out for you.

But, with a broken input jack and a painted grill? If it were mint you might get 1200..
but I see them in mint condition on Cragslist sit and sit for 1200....
1000 bucks if you restore it to new is probably realistic.
 
I've spoken to Scott in person before after buying my cabinets from him. He actually said he gets tired of people taking advantage of his warranty repair guarantee or breaking something only to blame it on manufacturer defects. He said he had a red and white cabinet someone ordered and refused to pay for just sitting in his office because the colour combination makes it impossible to list and sell.

Scott will help a lot of people out because he's good people, but you broke the input jack. He's not covering that under manufacturer defects.

Sorry you no longer want to play anymore - I can definitely relate as I'm getting over a 4 year lull myself.
 
You should list ANY mods or damage to the amp (that hasn’t been repaired, even still, you might want to mention repairs for the sake of transparency) in your for sale thread. You’re asking for trouble if you don’t. That painted head shell is going to hurt the value of the amp, though.

Yeah most buyers are going to ask for a lower price as it’s highly unlikely anyone is going to want the spray painted headshell. Now you’re talking a $150-250 charge the buyer is going to incur to get a new one. Unless the amp is a HELL of a deal then it’ll be a hard sell.

All, does yours have the new mod switches? That will help the resale.
 
A day later, and I'm still not sure if this is trolling. Does that make me an ass?
 
Not how warranties work my friend. Used quickrods rarely go for over $1350

$1100 you got a deal. I'll sell my 1960A cab with gt1275s for $250 too.
 
I’ve owned 4 Splawn amps. In mint condition with no repair history they will only fetch 1k if you are lucky. Splawn amps aren’t that hard to find these days. I hope you get what you want out of it. I’m just sharing my experience.
