What to pair with a Duncan Distortion in the neck?

So I put a Duncan Distortion and a Jazz combo in my strat. I'm really really diggin' on the distortion but the Jazz just seems dull and lifeless. Maybe it sounds scooped or something, idk, all I know is that it just doesn't do anything for me.

I had a '59 in a charvel I had and I remember not caring for that one either. Any suggestions? Maybe a Distortion neck pup? I have to make a decision quick before my 21 day return is up

Thanks

The distortion is pretty hot, what type of sound are you going for? Whose tone is your "I love it" sound?

I love the sound of the Jazz in the neck of my RR along with the bridge Distortion so I can't help you...

Hey Tom, what's up man? What guitar would the pickup be going in, and what do you want it to sound like?

My long lost friend! What's up bro???

The guitar is a fender strat. You know me Jeff, I love EBMM guitars and any of the EVH stuff. I guess I'm just so used to hearing those neck pups (air Norton equivalent). I guess that's what I'm looking for but in a Seymour Duncan

you could ge a stock pickup for a strat and use it mainly for cleans i always like that kind of combo

Not much man! Life has been busy here, flying a lot, deploying back and forth a bit, and we just had our second little one a few weeks ago; suffice to say, I've not played a whole lot of guitar lately!

To me, there isn't much in the SD inventory that really gets close to the Air Norton. There are plenty of sort of modern sounds, like the Pegasus, the PATB-1 Parallel Axis and the Full Shred. If you really want another Air Norton man, get the DiMarzio, but otherwise, there's plenty of cool SD offerings to try. If you can get past the aesthetics, maybe the PATB-1 Neck?

I have a paf 36th anniversary (dp103) in the neck of a usa charvel and I think it sounds great!

I agree with GrooveHT's recommendations.
Although I haven't tried the Pegasus I've tried many other Duncan neck pickups including the Jazz neck, and the PATB1 neck and Distortion neck are standouts.

The PATB1 neck model is killer. I'm not a fan of how it looks next to a standard bucker, but it's tone more than makes up for it.
It sounds very hot and compressed, but still has great picking dynamics.
Gives you very warm and fluid high-gain neck tones that make left-hand legato work a joy.

Duncan Distortion neck is another fave of mine for high-gain soloing although I haven't had one in any of my guitars for a while.
It's got a very juicy sound to it and has plenty of push for high-gain playing.

Clean sounds aren't very good with each of these neck models in full humbucking mode, but if I had a H-H guitar that needed a neck pickup for cleans I'd be looking elsewhere.
I prefer to use a H-S-H guitar when I need to play cleans so that's not a problem for me.

Maybe a series/split or series/parallel switch? On a 22-fret guitar like a strat, I'd definitely advocate for an HSH setup that auto-taps in positions 2 and 4, or on an HH, use a super switch that gets you inner coils in parallel and outer coils in parallel in 2 and 4.
