Hey guys. Got a guitar that stays in tune plays fine but has a crack in the headstock. I want to put epoxy on it and then sand down till smooth.
What brand you recommend?
If you’re just looking to fill a crack in the finish, CA glue works wonders. It’ll sand out and buff up shiny just like a high gloss guitar finish.
If you’re gluing an actual crack in the wood back together, then Titebond and clamps are what you want. You can thin the Titebond out 25%-30% with water and inject it with a syringe if the crack is too narrow to work the full strength glue into. I repaired my LP’s headstock this way.
If there's an actual crack in the wood, ideally, yes you want some proper wood glue in there. That is if the crack is large enough to get some thinned wood glue into. If not, thin CA glue will be better than nothing. Don't use epoxy.
