What was up with Michael Jackson?

The first video is from the Motown 25 concert, and the second is a later 30th Anniversary concert. He's obviously older in the second video, but I noticed that he won't look at the audience, and he keeps putting his hand over the top of the mic? He's singing to a backing track track in both videos of-course... Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this?

I know about all that... I want to hear opinions on the differences in his stage performance.
 
He's miming in the 30th Anniversary video i'm pretty certain. Not sure why he's cupping the mic, unless he's trying to obscure his lip syncing.

MJ was a legend, all the scandal aside.
 
As good as he is, he's overrated

I have his Live in Bucharest DVD, he sings about half the songs and uses a backing track for the rest.
What I find weird his what tracks he uses playback on, some slow tempo ones where he hardly dances

I feel no matter how talented a person may be or may have been, IF that person is a petterass, all achievements mean nothing. In MJ's case, IF it's all true. Sad. Very sad.

He seemed like a very creepy person to me. Weirded me out.
