Not sure what the guitar was but they looked like some old funky Japanese pickups. Based on the clean tone, you could get real close with some DeArmond or Filtertron style pickups and an old Fender amp with tremolo. For the dirty stuff, add a fuzz and a wah and you're "close enough for rock and roll".

Buddy of mine hit me up on FB and said it was an old Kay guitar, an SG copy. Threw me a pic and it looks right. Was just bugging me; it's been a long time since I couldn't tell what kind of guitar I was looking at. Thanks man!
