Got a NGD. Charvel Jake E. Lee. Guitar came in it's case and bubble wrapped (a little bit) and then in a box. The case was slightly askew but I thought nothing of it. Opened the guitar and found the neck pocket cracked on both sides. Thanks Fed Ex. Now I have three options:

1. Send it back and wait 8 months for a replacement (it's a lefty)
2. Return for a full refund
3. Keep it and get a "deep discount" (how much idk)

What would you do? Crappy pics below

Man, that looks pretty bad and possibly could effect the structural integrity? I know its a bolt on, but still. That's a hard pill to swallow on a new guitar. I'm not one to get hung up on the small details, but this could be a deal breaker for me. I think I'd request a re-do.

yeah, unless you're getting it for 40% price, I'd get it redone. It sucks, but better than than either having issues with it down the road OR just being annoyed by it every time you see it..

Thanks for the input. My first reaction was to send it back. But my buddy said guitars are meant to be played. But if I am spending that kind of $$ on a new one, it can't be like this. Thanks!

I would not keep it. Whether id ask for a refund or A replacement depends on the degree of buyers remorse I had after pulling the trigger. There's always some for me. If it was a lot, I would take it as a sign and just take the cash. If you really wanted one of these and feel that it's worth the wait in the money, get it replaced

Send it back no question

Yep, a no brainer. I would've made the call at the same moment I saw it.

Guitars ARE meant for playing. That one is meant for the trash heap! Send it right back (after calling the store of course)!

I agree. Guitars are ment to be played.
But if anyone is gonna break my guitar. ..
It's going to be me!

If you'd wanted a used, blem, relic'd guitar....you would've hit CL/Ebay/GC used bin etc. Send her back and wait I say. Of course, being the impatient man I am...you didn't break it, but why should you have to suffer through another (ever how many) months for the replacement, right? I say they owe you the replacement, but also they should let you keep and play the damaged one until the replacement is ready.... that seems about fair to me.

They want me to send it back. They are going to replace the body for sure. They will inspect the neck for damage and replace it if necessary. Here's a shot of what it looked like when I opened her up:

Edit....now your first pic is back up. That's terrible I would definitely send it back. Sorry.

Did FedEx do that? If so, they might offer you a big portion of the purchase price to sign off on it. They destroyed my EVH 5150 100s. They didn't even try to fight the claim, but called and explained that they would have to keep it if they paid me full value on it. They asked what I would accept if they let me keep the amp. Turns out they way overpaid me, but they probably would have agreed to $1 less than purchase price, since they had no use for it. They paid for shipping back to me, I got it repaired back to new condition and still had $63 leftover.

Send it back, but not only because of that damage......mainly because it arrived in that backward looking lefty version! lol

The biggest mistake I see with people packing guitars is not making sure the guitar cannot move around inside the case. I don't care how well outside the case is packed. Some cases allow the guitar to move laterally way to much where the headstock makes contact with the case end. One good whack and the stock will break. Same with horizontal movement where the body has too much movement. Probably like yours. Breaks will occur at the points of stress. Recipes for a damaged guitar.
Definitely send it back. That looks like it's cracked wood, not just paint.
