The biggest mistake I see with people packing guitars is not making sure the guitar cannot move around inside the case. I don't care how well outside the case is packed. Some cases allow the guitar to move laterally way to much where the headstock makes contact with the case end. One good whack and the stock will break. Same with horizontal movement where the body has too much movement. Probably like yours. Breaks will occur at the points of stress. Recipes for a damaged guitar.
Definitely send it back. That looks like it's cracked wood, not just paint.
Yep everyone thinks that just cause it is in a case it is totally safe, NOT!
as you can see you have to pad the guitar in the case as well.
I make sure the neck and headstock are very padded so there is no chance of that happening.
I would send that back those cracks are pretty bad and are not just finish cracks.

They guys said his main issue is FedEx. He had numerous issues with them lately. But he also did NOT wrap the guitar in the case at all. He had one layer of bubble wrap outside the case. The lid to the case was askew also. That thing was not packed well, but FedEx must have slammed that thing!

Thank you all for your help. This is definitely going back!

Definitely the right decision to send it back....if the guy packed like that, chances are he's screwed and FedEx will deny the claim...sucks.

Of course he has. You can't not secure a guitar in it's case and expect it to not get damaged. Some cases hold the instrument very tight but many do not.

The claim with FedEx is the responsibility of the shipper, your beef is you paid for a guitar and you received damaged goods. Take plenty of pix to document, then send it back for a full refund and start over. There's a good chance that the shipper insured with a third party, especially if it's a store, but not your worry. Send it back for full refund, and if they give you any flack, a certified letter from an attorney gets people up and moving!! I had a very similar experience from Eddies guitars, with Nathan, the owner. They were going to give me the royal shaft until I had my attorney friend send them a certified letter. Problem was resolved the next day. I no longer buy anything from Eddies. Great selection and all, but the minute something goes wrong they drop you like a hot potato! Bad customer service.
In your case, If they do the right thing and give you a full refund, you'll be a happy camper and continue to give them your future business.

Edit....now your first pic is back up. That's terrible I would definitely send it back. Sorry.

Yep, that is just ridiculous

If it's just a crack in the paint, i would keep it for a discount.
Can check in the neck pocket if the wood is damaged or not...

That's probably what I would do.

(after asking the shop first) I'd take the neck off and at least look at it. Finish crack only - maybe I'd live with for a deep discount. Neck actually cracked - return it.

Shame too - it is a great looking guitar. Sorry for the added complexity of it being a lefty.

I don't trust Fed Ex anymore. They completely knocked over our mail box before Christmas. The guy walked up to the door and apologized and told us to file a claim. We did, and were originally assured everything will be taken care of. We couldn't wait forever obviously so we replaced it ourselves. Now, 6 weeks later, the fucking Fed Ex dude is now telling his internal investigation people he doesn't know anything about it and never hit our mailbox.
