I am digging the stock 500t's but I am wondering if there is a pick up with a little more character (some thing in the mids). I have had bad results with J.B's in all mahogany guitars and am not looking to go the active route. I am looking for something similar but like I said a little more meat in the sound. Thanks!

500t is really good. Try a Duncan Distortion for a similar sound but tighter and less "gritty" in the mids. Or try a Dimarzio Super Distortion for more meat in the low mids and more versatility. I tried a BKP Cold Sweat in mine.....too thin and reminded me of the Duncan Custom. Currently have the Duncan Distortion in there, but I think I prefer the Dimarzio SD.

I have Suhr Aldrich pickups in mine, and it sounds great.

I have a Motor City Custom wound Warcry in one of mine, and a Bare Knuckle Painkiller in the other.
depending on how tight you want the bottom end, the Painkiller is ok. (not tight enough for my tastes, but I think it's the boomy wood of the guitar that is affecting that).

I'll probably try the Aldrich, or maybe an El Diablo, or Full Shred next.

A great choice would be a Bare Knuckle Cold Sweat. Ceramic magnets, so it chugs great....but the output is in the medium range, so it's stays nice and open and huge sounding. It's goes well in slightly darker guitars since it was a nice top end that works great in Les Pauls, so that may be cool on your Explorer.

Wow I got more options than I expected and it's great to hear explorer guys chirping in. I may start with the dimarzio sd since it's more readily available and see where that takes me. If not I have other great options.
Cheers Guys!

Probably something with 4-wheel drive. Depends on what kind of exploring you do.

Got them in my explorer pro. Very thick and meaty with good mids!

Does anyone know where in Ontario I can find a set of shur Aldridge's. I would rather not go the cross us to canada mail order route. I did that with a set of tv jones and got dinged up the ass. Another thing the explorer pro has a maple cap which brightens up the guitar would the Aldriches sound too boomy in an all mahogany guitar.

yeah I installed those Aldrichs in that explorer...and WOW. sounds great.
another vote for Aldrichs.

I am interested in this. I have always liked Dimarzio's and I used the pickup finder. It suggested the Dimarzio Norton based on what I put in. Anyone have any experience with the Norton (not Air Norton)? If not, I'm going to give it a try and I'll report back.

The Norton is really cool. I used to have one in a Les Paul. Tight low end, lots of mids, rolled off a bit in the highs. Not too hot but still drives the amp. I still have the Norton in my parts drawer since I don't have anything to put it in. Let me know if you are interested in it. The leads are short but can be extended. It's black and F-Spaced.

I really dig the stock 500t , but a dirty fingers would be simmilar, also I want to try a super distortion again with my new setup as they usually sound killer in pauls and explorers.
