sorry for starting so many topics.... but as an aside to my Mesa convo:

what's the value on a beatered Engl Powerball V.1 and Engl 4x12 cab with V30's? and specifically, what would you pay for just the cab, no head? I just went and played it, and the thing sounds great. but...the tolex is so beat. SO beat. thing is, I dont really care so much. I kind of prefer my stuff to be kind of beat up so I don't feel bad using it. I still think I prefer the powerball II, but it's hard to tell. but the thing sounded damn good.

here's a pic from the seller

tolex actually looks MUCH better in this pic than it does in person. amp has definitley gigged alot. however, seller has a receipt from today picking up from Schroeder in Chicago for a retube and general check out. brand new 6L6's.

anyway. dude's asking $1800 for head and cab and I think he's out of his mind. am I off? what it's worth for head and cab? if i can get him to separate the cab to use with my Roadster, what would be reasonable to pay for it?

thanks again yall

I feel the same way. Id rather have something already beat at a great price and then I dont feel bad when it gets scratched, ripped or torn. I feel like he's a bit high on the price. Id only go 1300- 1400 for both if it was me.

that's a lot closer to what i was thinking it was worth.

The Engl Pro cabs have a high resale value, around $700

ok, so now how to broach the subject with the seller without offending...

anyone know what the invadrer 150s go for?

thanks
I bought a used Invader 150 a few years back for $1900
but this was when the amps were still selling fairly high on the used market.
Kick ass amps for sure.

You talked me down on price! I never felt offended by it.
I'd ask him how he's figuring the price between head and cab. The $1,800 mark isn't too far off both were in excellent condition, but if they're pretty beat up, I definitely wouldn't pay the same price.
IMO, a Powerball II is worth $1,200-1,400 depending on age and condition and a Powerball I is $1,000-$1,300 depending on condition. If that head is beat up that badly, I would max at $1,100.
The cab is the trickier part, I haven't seen many used, but they're usually firmly in the $5-600 range when I have, but that's usually on Craigslist so figure in $50-100 of negotiation room in it.
If you offer $1,600 for the pair I imagine it'd be hard for the seller to say no, but I'd start at $1,500 to see how much they'll give.
I think anyone with the GAS is probably aware of how the game is played. If they're offended at a reasonably bottom line offer, then they'll just be disappointed in the end anyways.

Thanks man! It wasn't the talking down part, I think that's fairly normal? but the huge discrepancy between what he's asking and what's its worth makes an otherwise reasonable offer seem like an insulting lowball.

powerball 1 used in great condition is $1100-1400 , powerball II in great condition is $1500 - 1700

An important part of the equation is the footswitch. I'd bump $100 for a Z5 included. I found the Z5 WAY too big to use personally, but I sold the one that came with my head and bought an equally usable footswitch that was 1/3 the size and pocketed some cash in the transaction.
$1,200 would be an insulting low ball, $1,500 is a solid starting point.

Well, I made an offer and he hasn't responded. In the current Chicago CL market, I think he'll find that he won't get what he's asking. C'est la vie.

Edit: it's a z4

The engls have a really sensitive tolex on them. It almost feels like real leather. The smallest little thing dragging across it will scratch it to hell. My cabs and head are alllllllllll fucked up from going in and out of my trailer and I always try to be as careful as I can be with them. The tolex is just very sensitive. So don't worry about it being beat up. The seller probably took pretty good care of it.

well, i offered him 15 and he hasn't gotten back to me in three days, so I'm assuming he took it as an insulting lowball. i also sort of got the feeling that it was one of those things were the seller had a personal attachment to the item that increased its value in his eyes above any reasonable connection to market value. he mentioned that he considered $1800 to be a sell-it-quick price. no biggie, i'd rather have a powerball II anyway, so I'll be patient.

Yeah man, sometimes people just get it stuck in their head what they think THEY should get for their item. I've ran across that a million times with CL, and I've had friendly exchanges over the negotiating of the price, and I've had exchanges go totally south where I basically tell the seller he can take the item and stick it up his ( you know) and the seller tells me to take my "lowball" (actually market rate) offer and stick it.

It sucks, because sometimes you'd really like to buy that item, but the seller just isn't willing to be realistic on the price, and everyone looses.
