I've just noticed in the last day or two that there is a Similar Threads thing at the bottom of posts I'm reading. Also, when typing in a post heading, it's automatically looking up posts with the same wording.

This is on another forum I go on for Chevy trucks and has been there the whole time. Was there an update to the forum software or did the neo soul running joke break the forum?

Yup. Nice QoL feature I reckon.

Also, if you start a thread a list appears below as you type your title so you can see in realtime if there's already another thread discussing the same thing.

Is there a way for me to turn off the similar threads feature for my account?
I'm happy to just click the "close" checkmark to cancel the pop-up (I've never had a mobile so am on desktop), but I haven't seen how this works on mobile.

Maybe it's more-complimacated for you guys?

Either way, I agree that in an ideal world we'd have the option to disable it in our account-preference settings. I'm guessing that, being a new feature set, once the company's received feedback from the general user base, such an ability would be implemented if the numbers dictate it.

Where are you seeing a "close" checkmark? This is on desktop.

Top-right corner, as I said earlier bro'.

I established the context with post #3 and that was my only other post in the thread, so that's where I was coming from - the POV of thread creation:

I didn't realise the option isn't there when you're just posting and not thread-creating.

Thanks to you I checked it out and there's a discrepancy there.

IMHO that "close-window" checkbox should be there in both scenarios, you'd think.

Ahh, I had read your reply in the context I had in mind when I wrote my original question.

Yeah. Oh well, time to fire up the adblocker.

Makes sense; you had the original question in-mind, so you had your context.

I replied by saying the feature's active in the create-thread scenario, which was mine.

We both win.

Seriously 'though, if the software authors offered the checkbox in my scenario it makes no sense that they "overlooked" providing it in yours.

IMHO

Well it's gone now. :)

1) Install UBlock Origin
2) Use the element picker to zap the similar threads box at the bottom of threads.
3) Profit.

I'll have to try that (or something) as I am personally not a fan of the 'similar thread' bolt on. Not because I don't know how to ignore it, but more so it seems people are inadvertently bumping old threads. If there was a way to use a different color or something I think it might make it stand by itself more.
