Hi, guys, I'm gonna take my amp to my tech next week, but I just thought I'd see if anyone could tell me what's wrong with it.

I was playing in soundcheck and my amp started crackling and cutting out then died altogether, so I checked it and it looked like the power plug had stretched and had come half way out where I had it plugged into the the mains 4-gang extension lead.

Checked the mains fuse and that had blown so replaced it with the correct one and now the amp powers up fine, but it's not useable as it can only get the faintest sound even on full volume on the master and channel volumes put together.

Checked the fuses for the power amp section and they seem fine and the power amp fault lights aren't coming on either.

Does anyone know what it could be? I've checked it with a different cab too so it's not the cab.

Thanks very much for your help, like I said I'm taking it to my tech, but it'd be good to have an idea of what it could be!

Any help on this would be great, as I have the same one, and the same issues.

Haha, brothers in arms! Did yours just up and die or was it through an electrical/man-made fault like mine?

:aww: I used to own one. It was one of the best sounding Marshall amps and a best kept secret as far as I am concerned. I had the exact same problem with mine. I took it in three times. Each with a different problem. First it was crackling and loosing power. Replaced the tubes and general maintenance. Then one of the switches went bad in the back of the amp. Then what you are describing happened. I took it in and it was a bad power transformer. I was told if you get a good one then you are set. However, if you get one with issues it can start causing problems. I was told it is worth fixing but if the switching system ever goes out in them,it would only make a good door stop. When I got the amp back from Mr. fix it, it was fixed and didn't have any more issues. My amp had 6L6's in it. It is an awesome amp. I am regretting selling it. I hope you get it fixed. I think it is worth every penny. The third gain channel sounded like a modded JCM 800. It was just a brutal sounding amp. I hope this helped. All together with the cost of tubes all these issues added up to about 800.00.

I have a Marshall 6101 combo amp which is the 1x12 combo amp version of the 6100 amp. Sounds like you should check the phase inverter tube since you're having very little sound going through it before going to the amp tech. It will only cost you around $12.00 to replace the tube and you can do it yourself. Make sure your replacement fuses are of the same rating posted on the back of the amp. Does the MIDI channel switching work on your amp?
