Mine is this 1990 Peavy S-1 that i picked up at a Pawn shop for $150 in the case with all the paperwork.
Was nasty and the solid milled brass bridge was green as were the frets + the factory actives were dead (Had a wire pulled off the battery connector). Got the electronics up and running + it all cleaned up and set up and found it's just an absolute MONSTER player guitar!!! Pickups were the biggest surprise as they are dead silent even in situations where there is a lot of stray RF and just sound amazing. This thing sustains for EVER sounds amazing and plays like an absolute dream it's one of the most unexpected true sleeper guitars I have ever picked up.

In action live through my unmiced Zinky Blue Velvet 25 watt combo. The stage wiring here is SO bad a normal passive guitar like my PRS Custom 24 buzzes so badly through a super high gain rig like the Zinky it's almost unusable but here with the old Peavy the rig is almost dead silent. That's why I almost always bring this old dog on a gig as it's so quiet where other guitars would buzz like crazy it's simply amazing!

What's your cheap sleeper guitar?

hehe
my ultra cheap score that floored me was a peavey too. Its got a suprisingly good set of P90s in it, a wierd body shape and a great neck on it. I got it for 200 bucks and I play it all the time when I need a pissed off P90 tone

1982 Greco Mint Collection EG480 les paul copy. Had it shipped from Japan last winter for a total of $450 with shipping and it got to me in the middle of the US in like 2 days lol! Just an incredibly good playing and sounding LP.

Right now it's an import Washburn from funky munky music.

But I seriously want an earl slick/guitar fetish double cutaway single p/90. They are only like 250 brand new.

Greco Les Pauls can fetch some big money in some markets. I wouldn't consider it a cheap guitar

Mine is a RG321MH Ibanez, very light resonant mahogany, neck stays straight as an arrow, no stupid floyd rose

Believe it or not mine is an older Peavey Patriot. I got it sometime in the late 80's early 90's and for some reason it just plays and sounds great. I re-did the electronics and put a JB in there and the guitar screams! The neck has always felt good and with little attention over the years has always remained straight and true. I mainly use the guitar for practice and sometimes when away at my vacation home, but I'm not afraid to admit that it has seen plenty of live performances as well. Anyway, here she is.......I call her "The Pirate."

Fender MIM Strat with a Floyd and canoe cavity. Right now I've got it set up for HH but the canoe cavity makes it super flexible if I want to drop in a loaded HSS pickguard I keep around. I also sanded the neck so it got an awesome satin feel to it. Love the MIMs as a modding platform.

Dont really own any cheap guitars, I suppose.

I do have a USA made standard Strat from '83, a lot of Strat snobs consider the junk era of Strats....meh. Soft as butter neck and fret work. The pups are not very hot, but it's not really meant to be a "hot" guitar. It is a beautiful playing and sounding guitar. Really rich and warm, but with that patented Strat jangle.

Squier classic vibe 50's tele
Never owned a tele before, it plays great and in addition to good cleans it can sound surprisingly angry.

mine's a peavey as well. i've got a reactor tele copy that was in a local music store. i think i paid about 200 for it. played really easy.. sounded great.. so i bought it. decided i was going to put a shielding kit in it. popped the pickguard off and found out it already had a set of duncan's in it. i usually just leave it in a stand in the living room and run it into low wattage amps. it gets played quite a bit.

I dont really own any cheap guitars but i have a used esp kh2 and i seen them used for around $800.
Overall i really like the kh2 and have owned a few of them over the yrs. sounds and plays great.

I used to own a alexi lahio ltd that wasnt alot of money but sounded awesome.

I also had some epiphone lp and sg but i didnt think they sounded very good, i got them when i was first learning to play and they was lifeless.

I have my first squire strat. It's what I learned to play on and it's just so familiar it makes up for some of it'd lower quality inprofections. ... It now has a set of EMGs 81 and a 89. Sound good but I only play it about once or twice a year.

PRS Singlecut Trem SE. I put Anderson pickups in it and blocked the bridge. It's a monster.

I had one of those, put a SD mini HB in the neck spot and it was an awesome guitar. One of the best teles I have played period. I had one of the first 100 SSNs so I can't vouche for them later ones bu that first batch was great.

I have a 1990 Sigma Martin acoustic that has low action, zero buzz,
and the truss rod hasn't been touched since I plunked my money down.....
I have no idea what wood the neck is but it feels like a rock in my hand....
I see these on E-Bay available all the time.....Worth it......

Parker Fly Hornet pm10
Its an import Parker with a single cut mahogany body and set neck. I got it used for just under $300. It does not have the carbon/glass exoskeleton or stainless steel frets like my USA Parkers, but it does have hum buckers with coil taps and an ebony fretboard. The action is very low, it plays/sounds great and stays in tune.

PRS Mushok baritone. Picked it up for under $400 and it's a beast. Currently tuned to open C for Devin Townsend type shizz and beefy rhythms. I'd recommend one to anyone looking for a beater baritone.

2nd place goes to a 2014 Schecter Loomis...I always hated Schecters for the abalone lameness, but they've done away with it on a lot of models and really upper the specs this year. I don't think you could buy a better 7 for under a grand anywhere. I just wish it wasn't so goddamned ugly. :)

Squier Classic Vibe Thinline tele. Super guitar, replaced the pickups, completely usable, I've gigged with it a few times and it's a workhorse!

Early 90's LP studio. Frets leveled, then re-fret, put a Lollar Imperial in the bridge.. it won't quit no matter the amount of abuse I give it.
