What's your best "cheap" guitar?

Surprised to see so many other Peaveys here!
Keep um coming guys!

My "cheapest" guitar is a Gretsch Jet Custom that I got for Christmas a while back. It was really tough to get into on this particular model, because it was made right before Fender acquired Gretsch. It's been my "go-to" guitar when I wanted a Les Paul type tone, but didn't want to bring a Gibson LPC around to some seedier areas of town.

It turns out, this has all the same specs as a LPC, same body thickness, mahogany body, 2 piece maple cap (not plywood), '60s-ish maple neck, and plays pretty quick. The only thing I don't like is that the finish isn't laquer, it's poly...

Price? Free to me, but they were selling for $600-ish (before changing the pickups and tuning keys) when they were blown out. I've never met anyone that has one or has seen this model.

And, it's tied with this...

An old Ibanez RG Custom. I traded a guitar in for this plus some cash and bought it brand new. I can't remember how much it ended up being, but it was around the $600 mark. I used this guitar on my first recording, so I haven't got rid of it for sentimental reasons. I don't see to many of these either. I've recently changed all the black to gold hardware, and it looks killer. The blue metallic paint seems to shift from black, to purple, to dark blue, to electric blue. I even have the matching bass!

I've been offered cash for both of them, but it's hard to sell them, but I'm thinking I need another LP...

A Squire VII pieced together from a few different guitars. Found a neck and body that really work together, and it's one of my favs in a stable with some pretty expensive stuff that's come through.

My PRS SE 245, it's a monster for the price and my Fender Strat Blacktop MIM with floyd, I swapped the bridge PU for a Duncan JB and it plays better than my American Standard!

Mine is a Squier Vintage Modified HSS strat. Neck is comfy and the SD Designed pups sound pretty good. However due to a dumb ass decision to try refretting it on my own it is now a fretless guitar

Epiphone Pro Fx I just got for my birthday! I had no idea these Pro Series Epi's were so nice!

Early 2000 MIM Strat with a mini JB in the bridge position. Great playing and sounding guitar.

JACKSON SLX, it is the import version of the USA SL2H and it kick's major ass for the $300 it cost me

my agile. Punk rock never sounded so cool :D

BC Rich jr V deluxe NJblahblahblah model.

The best ebony board I've ever seen on a late model import, looks just like Jackson's usa Ebony board. Super low action, maybe even better than a couple of my Jacksons. Maple/Mahogany combo that sounds really well, even with having EMG's. Not bad for $700 brand new.

PRS SE's are probably some of the best built imports (non-Japanese) I've ever played. SOLID.

Outside that, when you could pick up the Japanese Charvel Model series guitars all day for about $250-350, those were about the best thing going. Those days sure have passed... :(

Hard to beat a Do It yourself warmoth strat....the $160 neck and bodies are great...select by the wood grain and get busy! and you'll learn a thing or 2 about tone on your way into the build.

Can I count an early USA Custom Shop Jackson? I only paid $300, thats cheap.

Got this beat 90's MIM strat from a buddy last year:

After putting about $50 into it (new pick guard and used SD SSL-5) and some elbow grease, it looks like this. Last upgrade will be new tuners but even with the cheap old stock ones it stays in tune pretty well and sounds and plays great. :)

Have one of the newer Road worn 60's strats with the minimal wear, white with rosewood, got it brand new for $650 and there is just something about that guitar. My favorite strat and I have many. Also picked up one of the road worn 50's Tele's, just kills as well. Both are like old well cared for guitars and they both have the Mojo!

1982 Greco Mint Collection EG480 les paul copy. Had it shipped from Japan last winter for a total of $450 with shipping and it got to me in the middle of the US in like 2 days lol! Just an incredibly good playing and sounding LP.

Greco Les Pauls can fetch some big money in some markets. I wouldn't consider it a cheap guitar

Mine is a RG321MH Ibanez, very light resonant mahogany, neck stays straight as an arrow, no stupid floyd rose

That's very true that some of them can fetch high dollar (I've also got a mint collection 1982 EG100 which is worth around $1500 to those knowledgeable in MIJ guitars) but these lower models can be had regularly quite cheap as in $700 (often $500 or less) or less. You pay high dollar for one of these models and you have way overpaid!

Absolutely!! When I put the thread up I was not so much thinking cheap guitar when new but best buy to YOU on the cheep!
That was a SMOKING deal on the Jackson congrats!
I'm a big fan of Grovers creations and own several. While mine say some thing "other" than Jackson on the headstock be assured these guitars are all 100% handbuilt in the USA Grover Jackson creations!

schecter omen 6, the neck on this thing is just perfect,as opposed to my ESP EC-1000 that I want to take a belt sander to to get the neck where I like it!?

vintage v52 icon , killer tele, grabbed it off ebay for cheap, previous owner had upgraded pickups/wiring, just changed the nut, one of my favourite guitars

otherwise a PRS SE soapbar II , killer p90s on there, sounds and plays great

a couple of weeks ago i was looking for a lester to take out gigging so i can beat it around. at least that's what my ears were telling me we needed.  found an '01 epi custom locally. after a bit of setup work and a few other minor adjustments it sounds and plays great. saein made korean model.. but it just rings. $395. i think they're a bit like mim's in that you have to pick through them to find the good ones. doesn't compare to my '73 sg standard.. but that's like comparing apples to oranges.
