What's your favorite model/revision Rectifier?

Both my rev F and early rev G sound exactly the same. I'm starting to buy less into the whole revision thing. The main thing for me is the tube setup, which must be a pair of KT88's and a pair of KT66's in the power section of a dual. Much better than any 6L6 or EL34 IMHO.

I played an older 2-channel (93, I believe) and it was amazing! Very responsive, big and greasy. It didn't really have the sizzle or harshness in the top end that my later 3-channel had. That was the best recto i've played, but only by a hair. My modded 3-channel was so close! Also, try KT77s and GZ34 rectifier tubes! Seriously awesome!

I have a Rev F and a Roadster. I like the Roadster better.

In the end I can thin the Roadster out to get the Rev F sound, but I can't thicken the Rev F up enough to get the Roadster sound.

I love the way their front are reversed! Beautiful looking amps that can scare the shit out of people when plugged in!

Yes sir Rev. G.

And no there isn't a site but you can either get an approx. by calling Mesa or opening up your amp and there is a handwritten date inside.

hey fluff, an R-005961 Triple (2 channel) would be a Rev G?

Yes sir. Mid-late 1995. Rev. G's came out approx SN 3000 or so around mid 1993.

So basically any triple 2 channel 3000 and above is a G?

If I remember correctly any Dual or Triple above ~2200 is a Rev G.

James, look on the PC board. On the forward edge you will see it stamped Rev. F or G.

I had a Rev F triple and a Rev G dual side by side with the same tubes.. They sounded different for sure and I cant say how much one being a dual and the other being a triple came into play.

The Rev G sounded more like what you would expect, it sounded better than newer 3 channels, tighter less fizzy etc but still kept the same voicing.. The Rev F had a different thing going on, it had a lot of mids, was very clear and tight. Was more unique sounding than the Rev G.

I liked them both. I think it would be worth it for you to try a Rev F since it does sound different. IMO the best tubes for a recto is JJs in the preamp and Sovtek 6L6 in poweramp.

About 10 years ago....I had a couple of stock 3 channel duals....they sounded pretty good....but of course....ice picky highs..flubby lows.....so I didnt keep them.
Tried the Modded Single Recto a couple years back and man it was KILLER! Traded that....couple more amps...Tried the New Multi watt recto (way better then the ones I had stock) ...
went back to a FJA modded 3 channel dual. Sounds GREAT!

After a weekend of listening to a ton of Rectifiers I decided on a Rev G Triple. I just dumped some gear and got one. Should be here this week. I start a record with it on the 7th. I really feel that for what I'm doing at the studio and my taste in tone that the Rev G is the ticket. I still have the Rev G Racto which has new tubes coming in the morning. It does seem like there's a pretty big difference between them. And my main need is not versatility, it's massive rhythm tone. And that 150 watts just is so over the top, it drives me crazy. I have a huge iso tent at my studio with Mesa and Bogner cabs so I can play as loud as I want. Anyway, I really appreciate all the help I got from you guys.

I head out of town for 10 days but when I get back I will do some tracking with both and post some clips.

James

not real up on the revisions, dunno much about em, I've had quite a few Rectos, could get killer tone from pretty much all of them, but my favorite BY FAR, is the Tremoverb. Thing was a BEAST!!!

I had a couple of those in the past, nice amps.

FWIW i really enjoy the tremoverbs. Simple design, and great cleans + lead. Hard to beat
Same here...easily my favorite of the Recto series amps.

I just retubed my Racto and messed around with dialing it in some. Sounds better with the new tubes, more organic. I was having some trouble getting it to blend with my Marshall because it had just a hint of a plasticy sound but tonight I was able to get all that out. Really exciting, every time I record it I get a better sound, it's like I'm really starting to learn these beasts. Anyway here a quick clip of the Racto tonight with a Bogner 4x12, 57/421>Neves.

I must admit seeing that video really made me miss my old Rev. G. Just sick sounding, James.

What tubes did you put in the amp by the way?

Thanks man. The 12ax7 were JJs, I think the 6L6s had a circular emblem with a C, looked like it could be winged Cs. I got the from Laura the Valve Queen she will probably chime in.
