Another Vote for the Langner !

It has the most usable gain of any pre I have tried and I have owned a shit load.

LANGNER SLAYS

new member. I'm a HCAF refugee and have been on TGP since HCAF went to pieces but I think I fit in better here from what I've read lurking.

I'm running a mp-1(stock) and a triaxis with an a/b/y switch. Awesome rig, happiest I've been with my sound in years. I'm not a metal player. Hair metal yes. My triaxis is noisy with high gain settings. I assumed this is normal but has anyone else experienced this? It is much noisier than similiar gain settings on the mp-1 even though the mp-1 is at least 20 years old. Also, if anyone is familiar with the triaxis and has any settings for getting as fendery cleans as possible out of it I would appreciate it. I've had no trouble dialing in good crunch and high gain but my cleans are so-so I would say. Thanks in advance.
Hey, welcome aboard
My Triaxis would get noisy in high gain, I put a noise dampened SPAX7 in V1, and it calmed it down a bit. ;)
I never could get Fender cleans out of it, but I got some decent cleans using a coil tap on my neck pup, and used the switching jacks in the Triaxis to switch the voicing option to a less aggressive setting on my pwr amp (Marshall 9100) at the time. It worked out pretty good

I'm not a preamp kinda guy - period. but just wanted to say WELCOME ABOARD...

And as for your avatar, if there was such a pedal - you'd be a billionaire by now :D

Yeah that was mine. Dam I should have kept them both!

How does it compare to you 900 ?

They are actually pretty similar, but the DCP1 has more gain, and is voiced with better mids, which I love. Its a little more open sounding too, I landed a MINT 9200 pwr amp from Psychodave and just played them together for the first time, it is a smoking beast. The midrange control on the Langner is like another gain stage   Its really amazing how much usable gain is on tap, I'm running the gain at about 1 o clock to 2 o clock and it sounds like its gonna explode
Really cool piece, I love it
I had never heard them until I landed this one, I only heard stories

I am running mine into a Marshall Monobloc 100/100 EL34 and sounds huge.

My 69 IS incoming from Mike as we speak. I can't wait to hear this thing since he tuned it up!

  Thats the same amp I'm running. It is HUGE. I had to change the V1 tube in the Langner, I was getting some microphonics, but it worked out well. That thing is ALL JUICE :D
whats the 69?

I had 2 X99's over the years, and just didnt dig it, same with the Fish and 3+SE.
But some love the tone, just not me.

GP3
I've owned just about every preamp made except for the Mako, and the GP3 kills all of them for me.

I've owned just about every preamp ever, and I never connected with the GP-3. It wasn't "Too stiff", I just didn't think it sounded very warm or vocal to me.

Warm and Vocal are two very very important qualities to judge a preamp by IMO- and I KNOW Mr Guitarslinger knows his preamps, from reading his threads and getting good advice from him as well.

Of the ones I've played, I'd say Triaxis. (snip) Diezel preamp. (If Peter ever builds one)

Papa told me if he ever gets time, he'll build one, but it would take a solid year and a half. In 92 when I bought my Triaxis, it was the shit, but now? I think Tone is about ready to take a corner none of us can see around.

How things change... So much for my 'stern' approach to pre's.

I just ordered a Mak 4.

For the love of....

I just added a very early mesa quad pre to my rig(sounds more organic to me than my triaxis) + a Mesa strategy 500 and its a wicked combination for sure...I'd be happy w/ a CAE 3+ pre, the new mako, and if Diezel ever makes one, that would be the cats meow!
