In case you missed that, what are some of the best sounding closed 2x12's that you've played?

You're talking cab right? If thats the case Bogner makes a pretty damn nice sounding one!

I only play my 2x12 at home, it has V30s and when used with my JCM800 it tends to distort slightly on high volumes...

I've found that a bit of power tube distortion is good but, in my opinion, speaker distortion is less diserable... I like them to open up a bit but not really distort

My G12K100s don't have that

I really liked k100s in my 6505 212 combo (which is sealed). My favorite so far has been my ear candy buzzbomb with M12 speakers...its ported, but the back is sealed...

I like the VHT/Fryette Fatbottom 2x12. It does break up quickly though, so it isn't good for a lot of volume IMO. Micing it up helps with that, of course.

I've owned a ton of 2x12's. I'm talking Splawn, Bogner, VHT FB, Orange, Engl Pro, Avatar Contemporary, Genz Benz, Ear Candy and so on. I'm being totally honest when I say my cheap Egnater TM212 sounds better than all of them. I hate Classic Lead 80's, so I have a Hellatone 60L and GT75 in there right now. I like this a bit better than the V30/G12H30 mix.

Here's some of my beefs with the "hyped" 2x12's around here. And this is based on actual experience and not web talk. This is all my opinion and I also have thrown some cabs in together due to their close similarities:

Bogner OS 212, Mojo Bluesbreaker OS, and Avatar Vintage - all great for cleans and mid-gain, but really "hollow" and loose sounding............no punch under heavy gain and flubby low end.

Genz Benz G-Flex and Ear Candy Buzzbomb- pretty cool for awhile just because its so different sounding............but you soon notice how hi-fi it sounds and has no real "character". Bass is really boomy and sounds "fake" for lack of a better word.. Pretty cool for jamming around the house though.

Orange PPC212 and Avatar Contemporary - identical sound IMO, great for for loud volumes, awesome low end handling, rolled off highs. The problem is when you use these at low to moderate volumes..........they DO NOT breathe/resonate at all unless really cranked. At low volumes you end up with a dead/thuddy sound. Really noticeable when you A/B it against something else at the same volumes with same speakers. Would be my choice for gigging if I were playing chugga chugga

Splawn Regular 212- Similar to the Orange and Avatar Contemporary, but more manageable at lower volumes.

VHT/Fryette FB - I hate the P50's, but pretty cool cab if you don't mind extremely focused directional sound.

Engl Pro 212- No complaints here. Awesome cab all around but pricey. I really wish I would have kept mine. Really punchy and balanced EQ-wise even with the spikey V30's.

Egnater TM212 - Nice punchy sound at ANY volume. Ability to go 3/4 back for different flavors. No corner cutting despite cheap price and outside US construction.

A very affordable sleeper is the Lopoline "Signature" cab. I actually preferred this cab to my Splawn 212. I sold it and want another one

I keep coming back to the Bogner OS2x12. I don't agree at all with the last post that says they are hollow and flub under high gain. Mine doesn't, but i have the H30/V30 mix. I may just go with 2 H30's. I have another 2x12, a Mojo that I'll eventually get Scumbacks for.

Other great 2x12's I've played are the Port City Waves, and i actually like the Boogie recto 2x12's. Just get rid of the V30's in them and they'll wake up.

I'm using a Port City 2x12 (ported but closed back) at the moment and it's a pretty killer sounding cab. Relly tight and punchy, the v30s sound better than usual since it's got a built in baffle to deflect the higher frequencies from hitting you in the face when you stand in front of it. They're not outrageously expensive either, definitely worth the money

Just goes to show different strokes for different folks................I don't like Port City cabs either. Everyone's ears are different and that's why everything you hear on the web is subjective. That's why I said "all my opinion". As long as it works for you  FWIW, I do like the Recto 2x12's.

I like my Splawn RL 212 cab. Sounds great and is built like a fucking tank.

I hardly ever use it these days, though. Mainly got it for my '65 Bassman Head or my 50 Watt Metro Plexi. It kicks huge amounts of ass with both of those amps.

I actually like My Marshall 1936 the best.
I have it loaded with Greenbacks.

I also have a Genz Benz Reflex 2x12 but don't really like it too much.
I find it gets lost in the mix with the Sub frequency low end blending too much with the Bass and Kick drum.

I had a Rectifier 2x12 before that. I thought is was very scooped sounding and didn't like it much.

Avatar Vintage. Nice cab for cheap, with a good amount of speaker options right from Avatar. Reminds me of the Bogner 2X12's, for a 1/4th of the price.

Thanks for all the input everybody! Very good info.

I have 3 2x12's. My fave is an old Carvin slant (looks like an old mesa), the worst is a newer Carvin Legacy which is too small.

Troublehead, EXCELLENT reviews & I appreciate your input. These comparisons are important & what happens at gig levels are VERY important.

Not sure yet but I might build my own. Ive done it B4 & have some of my own new ideas I might experiment with, as well as any others that seem relevant. Either way, speakers & cab are the final stage of your sound & HIGHLY responsible for the coloration.

The only closed-back 2x12 I have enough experience with is the Mesa. I like it. No complaints. I used to own a THD 2x12 and Bad Cat 2x12 as well. But they were open-back/ported. So can't really make a comparison.

I like my Vader 2x12 a lot. I also have liked the mesas that I've played. Although I'd rather have a 4x12 mesa than a 2x12

i use a Framus 2x12 with one Greenback and one V30.
its the perfect as i have the matching head to go with it.

i also really like the THD 2x12. small size but great tones from it.

honestly ive only tried out the orange, mesa recto, mesa roadster, avatar contemporary, and bogner os 2x12s

out of all of them the bogner just puts them all down, i used to run my roadster head through it and now i run my twin jet through it and holy shit this thing just pounds the hell out of you

i honestly liked it better than the bogner 4x12 i had and sold the 4x12.

it sounds sooo big and woody, everything resonates nicely and comes through so rich and lush sounding. the low end is REALLY massive and punchy and its an all around smooth sounding cab

i have 2 v30s in mine and honestly i dont even really think i like the way 4x12s sound anymore id rather just run 2 of these os bogner 2x12s......they fill the room up with sound sooo nicely
